Many topics of study made Speech class interesting and varied this year. After being introduced to Interpersonal Communication, the two classes moved on to the Performing Arts of Reader's Theatre, Oral Interpretation and Improvizational Acting. Then Public Speaking was covered with each student giving three or four speeches. The classes finished the year with first period class delving into the theories of group Communication while fifth period spent the quarter designing and constructing muppets, backdrops and a puppet stage for a production of an original version of the PRINCESS AND THE PEA. joe sits on a stove as he is entranced by one of his classmates demonstration speeches. Group Discussion was one unit of study in Ms, Tucker's first period class. Fifth Period class presented an original puppet show, ONCE UPON A PEA, to St. Agnes students on May 25. is 12 Fifth Period students traveled early this year to I.C. Many students participated in Foreign Language classes this fear. While the French and Spanish I classes learned the beginning techniques of their subjects, the Spanish II students expanded their Spanish vocabulary after school hours, at Mrs. Smith-Gillespies' house. One day was set aside this year for the Spanish. students to only speak Spanish all day. In the afternoon they had a picnic which consisted of all Spanish meals. The Spanish Club provided much entertainment for the students as Well as parents, by having a taco-eating contest and also having Spanish dances. One student, Sarah Nixon, will be spending a part of her Mrs, Smith Gillespie Mr, Goulet summer in South America, where she will be attending school. 13
