A TEAC tape player was purchased to help provide music for dances. Fund raising activities centralized around the sale of bumper stickers and Powder Puff football. Two intramural sports were organized: ping pong and volleyball which provided an appreciated change of pace. To help with the responsibility of Student Masses, a Liturgy Council was appointed. The dances sponsored by SC including Homecoming, were a great success. SCHS should be proud of their Student Council for their work and help in raising school spirit. At the start of the year the classes were in complete chaos with everyone wanting to do their own thing and no real supervision. There was much bickering and disorganiza- tion. But by the middle of the year, the classes got it all together. Everyone started working as a team. The newspaper, with several creative writers, turned out several outstanding issues of the Spirit , while the yearbook staff with many unique people, put together their thoughts and ideas to produce one of the best yearbooks ever. We mustn't forget our fabulous J-I class, under the supervision of Judy Barnett, who came to our rescue in our time of need as well as producing a newspaper of their own, The Shamrock . Chicago. Under the direction of Ms. Tucker, a totally new and unique stage production was presented. Chicago!, Chicago! was an experimental play which developed the real creativity of the cast and crew. Since funds were lacking for royalties on a Broadway-type play, the performers developed characters and lines around a storyline by Ms. Tucker. The story is about four young people who move to Chicago, hoping to break into show business. An interesting variety of talent, including dancing, singing and comedy sparked the scenes. The Springfield paper rewarded the play with very high praises, and both performances were honored with standing ovations. lb H: V, ,. . , ,. ...U ht I A . N, . Seniors participated in their graduation Baccalaureate Mass in beautiful surroundings at Holy Trinity Church. On Sunday, May 21, Bishop Law celebrated Mass while Father Reynolds was master of ceremonies. Due to the threat of showers, Commencement was held in St. Agnes Cathedral instead of the conventional mall location. - Dr. john Bartholomy, President of Drury College, delivered a very unusual and interesting address. To start his speech, Getting Into Gear , with a spark of humor, he persuaded Bill Berberich to be his official time keeper. At the event's closing, diplomas were awarded and scholarships announced. 343: we p. fs ., 1 9. 5 i 1 L 'Z ,Q K N. :It y 1 Z 7 ,4 407 W' ffjf WW! . 4' , 4 . - 7 f' 1 ' W H I Q M 1 1 la f f ,... He added that a 3-4-1 record was evidence of their improvement. He expressed great appreciation for the student and parent support for the Irish. Coach Hyde was complimented for his effectiveness in running a very explosive defense. With Assistant Caoch Rust working with offense it was a very successful season.
