SCHOOL HISTORY Noting Allegheny Valley's fine high school, Reddy naturally became inter- ested in its history. He searched through old files and references and finally found a worn history book relating the colorful past of Springdale's school system. Turning to the first chapter Reddy struck upon the date 1838. As he looked closer, he found in that year Springdale's first school was established. As time went on two other schools were constructed, eventually being replaced by one building located on Pittsburgh Street and the main building of the present School Street school. After three additions to the latter in 1903, 1915 and 1927 and erection of the Colfax Grade School, it became apparent that a permanent high school was a necessity to the progressive community. Skimming through the yellowed pages, Reddy finally came to the all important chapter The New High School. H I Atop Mount Colfax, peering down over the prosperous borough, Spring- dale High School stands as a symbol of learning to all residents. The high school originally contained nine standard classrooms, a cafeteria, study hall, chemistry and biology laboratories, a gymnasium and a well-equipped library with conference and work room adjoining. Through the years additions and changes were made until the school grew into the present form. Under the able direction of Mr. Lee Aber, first principal and his successors, Mr. Herbert Ripper, Mr. Alfred Jacques and the present principal, Mr. John McCloskey, Springdale High School, with the jointure of three other school districts, Harmar Township, Cheswick and Springdale Township, has continued its fine tradition of offering to the young men and women of Springdale an education to be proud of! 6? llscilootl f g Q HRECORDS he-j K f -f V 1:11 r 1l-Tl 7
