The National Honor Society is sponsored by Miss Sober. At the be- ginning of the year there were thirty-one members, all Juniors and Seniors. Twenty new members were taken in in January. During the first semester Tony Cutrara was elected President, William Holland, Vice-President, Secretary, Jeanne Carlson, and Treasurer, Ann Heasley. The clu'b took a trip to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, December l2, l945. We visited the Courthouse in the morning and after lunch we saw the play The Damask Cheek at Carnegie Tech. As a January activity the club had a party at the high school to which the new members were invited, while the Senior members were permitted to bring guests. After dancing the greater part of the evening, the mem- bers were served refreshments. They won fifteen games and lost six, which is a very good record. Big, Husky Ed Ambrose finished the season as highest scorer in the valley. S. H. S. is proud to say he was a member of their Varsity squad. Vandergrift was Springdale's biggest competition. They beat S. H. S. 38 to 28 in the first game but the Power City boys came back at them in the second game and won 42 to 40. The boys seemed to enjoy playing on Shadysides gym floor more than anywhere else. They won that game by a score of 53 to 32. We also want to mention the fine work that was done by the boys on the Junior Varsity Squad. The Senior High Schooi was new and grand, at first we thought we were out of piace, but soon we found ourseives ,as much a part of the schooi as the Juniors and Seniors. The tirst measure in the tall ot V943 tound us at Springdale High School tor our tirst year. ln a tew weeks we really got into the groove holding assemblies, parties, and on the twentieth ot April our Freshman Dance, where all the kids cut the so called rug, ln May, Rose Roda, Ruth Langdon, Joan Sleppy, and Margaret Phillips were chosen to represent the Freshmen in the May Queen's Court . . . They really looked sharp in their gowns. Then came that tatetul day in May, V. E. Day. We will always re- member how we sat with our heads bowed thanking Cod tor this memor- able time. The rest ot the school year sped on in 6!8 time, until the summer vocation was at our door. After three months vacation we softly slipped into our places as Sophomores. The upper classmen iudged us to be slow, but soon we got att the sott pedal and then they learned we were naturals, tor anything. The tine interest and sportsmanship exhibited by the boys during toot- ball season was an example ot what the Sophomores could do. On the basketball tloor Bob Lincoln, and Steve Matthews were among the many that never took a rest, The girls also showed they were very active by having a Sophomore Bake Sale, where many goodies were sold.
