In a Word THE NEW HAVEN, Conn., REGISTER reprinted this letter, written by assistant pressroom foreman Gil Johnson to his daughter: I ' m using this time while I have nothing to do to let you know that I have nothing to say. People tend to look down at the word NOTHING and belittle its importance; however, it con mean life or death, success or failure, joy or sadness. Mountain climbers have died when they stepped on if. Parachutists are upset when they pull the ripcord and it comes out. Farmers have lost their farms when they grew it. Ball players and coaches have lost their jobs when they scored it. Women have been whistled at when they wore it as a girdle or bra, and many women make a good living when they dance in it. It ' s also reason for joy when it represents the sum total of your debts. It ' s what you earn when you do it. I hove saved it over the years and now have it in my bank account. It ' s what you generally learn from a politician mak- ing a speech. It ' s often discussed at meetings, and arguments and fights start over the subject. I often find it in my mailbox and only last night received it from the milk machine. I could go on but it will mean nothing. I just want you to be aware as you go through life that when you get some time to relax you should think about this sub- ject. Please do not think that I have been trying to give you a sermon because I have nothing in mind. Don ' t try to thank me. It ' s nothing. Readers Digest — May, 1 973 Graduating ' ' We May Never Pass This Way Again The accomodations and good service of the Spring Lake Country Club provided the setting for this year ' s Senior Banquet. It was a time for teachers, school board mem- bers, administration and their wives to come together with the Senior Class for one of the last times, to enjoy a delicious meal and fun-filled entertainment. A great variety of music in songs and the special talents of members of the Class of ' 74, including a unique and original film, created a night that will not easily be forgotten by all who attended. OPPOSITE PAGE: (1 ) Dan Chittenden and Jim Smart captured the audience ' s enthu- siasm as they read the class prophesies. (2) Above the sound of growling stomachs, Leo Donner gives the invocation. (3) Michelle Byl and Bud Visser seek advice from our class adviser, Mrs. Draper at the head table. (4) One of the many surprises of the night ... a song by the renowned Strohs Boys — Mike Duer, Don Chitten- den, Jim Smart, Bud Visser, and Ric Rymal. Bae- han said . . . What is happening in our society today is a very simple thing. The nice, cut and dried pattern, custom, tradi- tion, which we your parents, family, and friends were used to, have now been chal- lenged. Msgr. Baehon went on to explain that the fullness of any decision is the val- ues that grow. You and I come alive when we make decisions and decisions make us what we are. . . . develop your own value system wisely . . . you make your world. And the world for all mankind. Look around you. Your parents, friends, family, teachers, they are here because they core. Do you core? Your values . . . your decisions . . . Your world . . . our world. ■||H HB H 1 m 1 E. There ' s More in ' 74 It ' s been thirteen long and memorable years. Many good times have come and gone, and hopefully the unfortunate times have been few. These years in school together have made our class very unified and also one SLHS will long remember. Graduating Is just a start in our lives, for we all have our separate ways to go. Neverthe- less, these years have been great and have opened new roads in our lives. (1) Look, mom, I ' m reo-ly studyingi Craig Jones.
