,Foreword Time rules school Man has always measured lifeby time. This might be by hunger pains, by the sun moving across the sky, by the face of a sundial, or by the hands of a clock. Today school provides time for everything. There is time for victory and defeat, for work and play. There is time to explore the world of turkeys, steel mills, and salt mines, and atime to float down the river with Torn Sawyer and fall through the magic world of Alice and Wonderland.Then comes a time of 'struggle with frac- tions, with dissecting frogs, and learn- ing the Bill of Rights. Before one realizes, the time has come for that first football reception, the junior-senior banquet, the end of school picnic, and graduation. School is not all play: there is also a time to study and to acquire skills which will be necessary to enter the world, when the time comes, as responsible citizens. 2 i
