1 in DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION Seated, left to right -- Edward Boatman began his training as stock man in Burr's Department Store. He is not only interested in stockkeeping but likes window display. Edward rotates through the store and helps in inventory. Bobbie Ruth Beach is showing the girls samples of new materials just out. She is a junior student in training at Hemphill-Wells. Mozelle Day is in training in the sales office at Banner Dairies. She runs up sales, posts report checks, types, and is learning to do any job in the office. Seated -- Jean Moser started her work in the sports department at Montgomery Ward. Jean is a junior student. At the file,left -- Virginia Cole, a senior student, is training with the newspaper, The Big Spring Weekly. She plans to do work of this sort after graduation. File, right -- Myrtle Norwood, a senior student, is working for Mr. Tom Posson, Advertising. Myrtle's duties are varied. Seated at back desk -- Jean Munselle, a junior student, began her work in the stock room at C. R. Anthony's. She has done some individual workin stockkeeping, Christmas wrapping, and selling. Seated next -- Williarn Rackley is in training for management at the Wacker's Variety Store. He is an understudy to the assistant. At front table -- Janice Montgomery is a senior student in training at Zale's Jewelry. She works in the advertising office. Norma Foster is a salesgirl at Woo1worth's. Norma says that she is learning how to meet the public. Standing --Ida Belle Sundy, senior, is giving an oral report. She works at McCrory's Variety Store as understudy to the assistant. Seated, left to right--Patsy Burrus, a mid-term graduate who did her training as sales person at Fisherman's Dry Goods. Patsy took part in window display, inventory, stock, and sales. Lavelle Davis is training in McCrory's as a regular salesgirl. Lavelle fills her own counters, makes the displays, and sells. Bettye Franklin is in training as a sales person at Fish- erman's Dry Goods. Even though Bettye came back to school after marrying, she realized that she needed training to geta job. Melba Jenkins has the window display forthe J. C. Penny Co, Melba has an opportunity to use her ideas on this job. Jo Ann Burns is a regular sales person at the Wacker Variety Store. She keeps the counters filled, assists in ordering, displays merchandise, and sells. Lavelle Davis trains at Wacker's. Her duties are varied. Roy Shannon trains at the Big Spring Hard- ware Store. He checks in merchandise, places stock on floor to sell, assists in inventory, and sells. Arlye Morton trains at Bolinger Grocery. He checks in merchandise from wholesale house, keeps shelves filled. PatCross Barber, not pictured, is also a member ofthe'D.E. Class and trains at Margo's,

BIG SPRING STAGES CENTENNIAI. CELEBRATION The script of history has linked one ame more than any other with the first ecorded days of the big spring. The name is that of Randolph Barnes Iarcy, U.S. Army, whose log of an official military mission in the Southwest mentions ie encountering of a spring, which he :und flowing from a deep chasm in the ,mestone rocks into an immense reservoir f some fifty feet in depth. The notation 'as made October 3, 1849. Marcy's report to the War Department s a colorful and entrancing account of rairie exploration. He described meet- xg Indian tribes and told of their customs, e reported on flora and fauna ofthe coun- ryg set up detailed instructions as to istances, bearings, wood and water con- itions, and similar information for future ravelers. Schools have played an important part nthe advancement of Big Spring. On youth lay, the schools had thousands ofstudents narticipating in parades.
