FOOTBALL-1943 Last fall we had the strongest team since football was introduced in our school in 1941, but 'Lady Luckn d1dn't seem to be with us. Our opening game of the season was played at Rushford under the lights. we gave them a hard game, but lost, 18-O. In our second encounter under the lights, at Chatfleld, we still were on the losing end by 13-23 but the scores were be- coming lower. In our first home ga e we tangled with Lanesboro and fought to a O-O tie. The next game with Harmony was a very see-saw battle. Both teams threatened to score many times but were stopped short each time. The only score of the game came late in the last quarter when Harmony scored on a long pass to win, 7-O. In our last game of the season, playing in a driz sling rain and muddy field at Caledonia, we scored our first victory of the season, 7-0. Buch was learned through the brilliant coaching of Ted Bogda, and we hope the boys will do better in years to come. In six of its twelve games in conference playing it lost by fourteen points, an average of about two points a game. It wound up the season without too good a rec- ord of two wins and ten losses. The team is represented by sen1ors:Burnell Bergsrud, Clinton Dahl, and Richard Prolowg juniors: Ellsworth Tweito, Reu- ben Kolsrud, Gordon Goodnog sophomores: Robert Hillman, Leland Sundet, Art- hur Syversong and Earl Hoff, a freshman. The season's first game at Habel shoved a lack of experience in the team as only two regulars returned from last year's squad, Clinton Dahl and Burnell Bergsrud. Being at such a disadvantage, we lost, 51-13. In our second contest against Canton neither team could seem to get its offense going as is told by the score, 14-7, with Spring Grove on the short end. Next came the game with Caledonia, the score being 20-19 with Spring Grove on the short end again. Then came the worst loss of the season, 42-12 at Harmony. After that the postponed game was played at Houston. The score was 26-24. The game in which the team scored its first brilliant victory, was against Mabel. It downed the league leaders, 30-18 before a noise- packed crowd. In its game with Houston again, the boys showed a lot of scoring punch in downing them, 45-29. We then journeyed to Caledonia, and came back with a 16-12 defeat, after which Preston came for a 27-24 victory In losing, 26-24 to Harmony league leaders, the of fight and improvement in play. Another hard Canton. At the last game of the league play at the lead but were subdued in the final quarter, ence play until the sub-district tournament at Grove lost in an overtime period, 44-43, to the boys showed a great deal luck game ended 51-29 , at Rushford the boys were in 54-22. Our man is 'Twelton CEl1sworth gets quite excited when watching a good game of basket-ball, and it seems his first comment on a player is Sloppy Joe from Koklmon, but we believe no one can call him that. Last, but not least is our dn- predictable center, Goodno. Goodno seems to go by spurts: sometimes a whiz and other times just Nplanenino cracks, Bogdalig but neverthless nothing less than good. There are five on a team and thf1t's five--1, 2, 3, 46- 5. So here's to the 'All Stars of '44-'45'--keep up the good name of the All Stars of '43-'44nl BASEBALL Due to the shortage of manpower and the scarcity of Agasoline, the com petition of baseball in District One was cancelled, but a stress was made on intramural sports of some kind.
