CLASS HISTORY In the fall of '56, forty-nine “green” freshmen entered Spring Green High School. With the help of our class advisor, Mr. Bassler, we elected Cyril Haslow, president; John Porter, vice president; Betty Urfer, secretary; and Rita Kay Weitzel, treasurer of our class. The highlights of our first year were in- itiation and the sophomore parties. During the year we lost Vir- ginia Stewart, Kay Nelson, Lulabelle Thomas, Marvin Siperly, Carol Robson, and Andy Ringlestetter, Bruce Johnson, and Dennis Post from our class. Our sophomore year we no longer tiptoed (?) down the halls. The school now had forty-one silly sophomores. This year we proudly accepted the trophy for the winning float in our homecoming parade. With the assistance of our class advisor, Mr. Reddan, our big whale swallowing Sauk City’s feet and bearing the sign “We Swallow All But DeFeat” had been a success. During the year Victor Fries and Rita Synder left the class. Larry DeVoss, Jim Hamel, Ronnie Christianson, Carol Bauer, and Carole Zins joined us. We elected as our officers Bob Brummer, president; Betty Urfer, vice president; Margaret Maxwell, secretary; and Pat Sliter, treasurer. Forty-five of us returned to school in the fall of ’58. Our class rings made us realize that we were no longer underclassmen, and we would have to start deciding our future. Our advisors this year were Mr. Murphy and Mrs. Gilbertson. Our class officers were Francis Smith, president; Ed Dwyer, vice president; Sharon Olson, secretary and Pauline Robson, treasurer. This year John Seiger and Andy Ringlestetter joined us, while KarenCrary, Mary Pulvermacher, JoAnn Meise, Judy Hopkins, Margaret Maxwell, and Kathleen Olson left. On April 12, 1959 we lost our beloved friend andclassmate, Richard Richardson. Our prom. Blue Hawaii, took place on May 15, 1959. Monte Hacker and his orchestra pro- vided the music as our king, Francis Smith, and his queen, Pauline Robson, led the grand march. Forty of us returned to school in the fall of '59 to complete our final year. We elected as our class officers Bob Hottmann, president; Ronnie Christianson, vice president; Luanne Kolan, secretary; and Francis Smith, treasurer. This year A1 Miller joined the class. Our first big event this year was Homecoming when the football boys chose Bob Hottmann for their king and he in turn chose Betty Urfer for his queen. Having our pictures taken, editing the annual, presenting the class play and being measured for our caps and gowns made us realize that our school days would soon be over. We chose our class colors of blue and white, and our class flower the carnation. Our last week of school arrived with Baccalaureate on May 22. We proudly, but sadly, walked down the aisle on May 26 to receive our diplomas. It was with mixed emotions that we accepted them and shook the hand of our principal, Mr. Fox. Now we fully understood the meaning of our class motto, “Not Fin- ished, Just Begun.” Our school days were over, but our alma mater of S.G.H.S. will always be a part of us. Our four wonderful years together will never be forgotten.
