After the hustle and bustle of the first few days, we held our first class meeting with the aid of our class adviser, Mr. Bassler. We elected Jerry Hogan as President; Sharon Coyle, Vice- President; Mary Kraemer, Secretary; and Tom Heber, Treasurer. Our first big event of our high school days started with ini- tiation and our Sophomore return party. During that year, we lost ten members: Rudy Ewers, Brandock Peters, Marilyn Ransden, Lawrence Schneider, Bryce Wanless, Clarence Swenson, Evelyn Tackett, Douglas Pope, and Helen Stewart. In 1956, we returned no longer shy, but to begin the school year as Sophomores. We gained three new members: Donald Hackl, David Schlaegel, and Paul Thuli, bringing our class to a total of thirty-four members. Our new officers were: Tom Heber, President; Lynne Jordan, Vice-President; Kaaren Larson, Secretary; and Paul Thuli, Treasurer. Mr. Reddan acted as our class adviser and we proudly initiated the Freshmen. Herbert Pletzer left us during this year. We began our Junior year with thirty-two excited “upper- classmen. We elected as President, Marvin Moe; Vice-President, Kaaren Larson; Secretary, Leslie Gruber; and Treasurer, Sondra Miller. We received our class rings which made us feel like real upperclassmen. Our big event of the year was our Junior Prom which was held May 16. We voted to have Morrison Studio take our pictures. We chose Leon Neuheisel to reign as king and his queen was Mary Kraemer. Our theme was “Sayonara. Our advisers this year were Mrs. Gilbertson and Mr. Murphy. During our Junior year, Virginia Frees, Ton Johnson, Walter Loether, Pete Rogers, and Mary Ellen Uselman left us. The day came in the fall of 1958 when we could enter as SENIORS with a class of twenty-six in Spring Green High School. Our Senior year was one filled with lasting memories. We began working on our Annual. Tom Heber reigned over the homecoming festivities as king with his queen Sandra Brown, a Sophomore. Our class play, measuring of caps and gowns, our class trip, and planning our commencement exercises made us realize we would soon graduate from S.G.H.S. Baccalaureate was May 24, Class Night - May 26, and Grad- uation Night - May 28. We received our diplomas with mixed emotions of happiness and sadness. We can now more fully understand our class motto “Not the sunset, but the dawn. Sponsor: HELEN D. RICHARDSON FUNERAL AMBULANCE SERVICE HUNT’S GENERAL STORE ROBERT BAUER Bob F.F. Every fall, the club sponsors three one-act plays and competes with members of the tri-county league in a one-act play contest. In the spring, many students participate in forensics. A student does not have to belong to the club to be able to participate in forensics. Again competition in nine categories is undertaken with the same league members competing. Those students who receive A ratings go onto district and state tournaments. This year, the forensic team is striving to continue its 13 straight league victories. President...............J. MUSIC DEPARTMENT Our music department, under the direction of Mr. Robert Bestul, consists of a concert band, cadet band, dance orchestra, and a cappelLa chorus. During this 1958-59 school year, the music department has present- ed concerts, participated in open houses, and school parties. This first performance was for the September 12 Open House. Here, only the concert band and cadet band were active. For our October 10th Homecoming, the bands brightened up our parade and our town’s half-time ceremony, which was based on our annual June Festival. On November 14th, we presented our first concert. Every branch of the music department successfully took part in this concert, with 'A- round the World as i t s theme. Our Christmas Concert, having an audience of 500, had their traditional chorus procession followed by a very thrilling and enjoyable program. On February 7th, the dance orchestra presented the “Carnival Club” with the Prairie du Sac’s High School orchestra as guests. On February 27th, the band and chorus presented a concert for St. John’s School of Spring Green. Our last concert, based on different sounds and rhythms, came on April 17th. March 16th, was the date of the solo-ensemble contest at Platte- ville. Spring Green was very well represented. Our class B” band. Class ”C” Chorus, and class ”D” Cadet band successfully presented their talents on May 9th at Darlington. This has been a record year for our music department, and we, the Class of 1959, wish you, Mr. Bestul, and your music department, only luck and good music for the future. B. Urfer, L. Jordan, K. Jim Crook and Don Hess made the second defensive team on the All-Conference listings. This past year the basketball team finished in the upper half of the league. The team showed many of the other schools that our team could play justas good or better than any of the other teams. Tom Heber took first place in the league individual scoring race. ROSEMEYER DAVIS MARINE Sponsored by RIEK ELECTRIC DAVIS RICHARDSON JUNIOR PROM MAY 16, 1958 QUEEN MARY KING LEON SAYONARA” SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS On this final page of our 1959 Annual, the Annual Staff would like to give a special thank you to the reliable school bus drivers. In addition to their regular school day schedule, the bus drivers are always available for trips to sports events, band festivals, and many other field trips. They sometimes drive busses that become filled with loud talking and singing. Most of the students of Spring Green High School are aware of the fact that driving a school bus demands a lot of responsibility. Their main responsibility is to meet their every- day schedule regardless of the weather, unless it is some extreme condition. In view of these facts and many others, we would again like to give a big “THANK YOU” to the bus drivers: without them school would be almost impossible.
