KJ! I.- L ll.: 'ii W1 lfinl lfnze: YM-lsh. Bearde. R. Sligety. Second R0:,c.' C. Rc-nninger. R. Landis. B. Roherts. Oehlert. TRACK lim-lore the season opened for the 1957 Track Squad many believed that l957 would find Spring- lford beginning to gain a reputation as a potentially very good school for track. However. the pre- season training program progressed. insufiicient interest resulted in the cancellation of all dual nu-cts and only the participation of a few individ- uals in Invitational Rfeets. Those boys who weath- ered the season found some encouragement in the hall'-mile and mile against the best scholastic lllIlI11'INlIl the district. Kein'esen1atix'es participated in the Lower Merion Relays. the Yenzke Relays. the Chesniont Relays. the Cllu-sniont Rfeet. District One Nleet. and lnvitauonals at Phoenixville and Conestoga. During the Xieet with Phoenixville and Down- ingtown james Oehlert finished first in the 880: jon Bearde finished first in the niile run. Against Conestoga and Phoenixville james Oehlert won both the 880 and the -HO. james Oehlert later placed second in both the 880 and 440 during the Cihesrnont Rfeet and fin- ished fifth in tl1e 880 against all competition in the District One Nleet. Once again it is hoped that the Spring-Ford -lunior High School Track Squad gained enough experience and graduated enough boys to forni the nucleus of a very good and large N58 Spring- Forcl Senior High School Track Squad which can enjoy a full schedule for tlu- first linie.
