FOOTBALL Whlte by slx pomts at the end of the flrst perlod Then the Plrate grldders started their undefeated machlne rollmg The Neborak Frederxck combmatlon cllcked for two touchdowns whlle Barclay plunged two over and Bull Hakun one Isett burly tackle for the Plrates set up one touchdown by a 44 yard run and McK1ss1c tallled the final score on a pass McK1ss1c and Barc ay made the extra po1nt by takmg the ball on pas ses from N eborak Next ln llne for the tlrates was Marple Newtown whlch held the Blue and Whlte to a nlne po1nt halt mme advantage but flnally weakened and went down Z6 0 After the Plrates went moo the lead by a safety on a blocked KILK .John Neborak dusted on hls lhrowmg arm and passed tor three A hard flghtlng North Coventry eleven was next to fall on the llne of Sprlng City vlctorles After a slow flrst perlod tne Plrates came to 1116 and scored a 19 0 victory Barclay opened the scorlng Wllh an eleven yard dash on the rlght slde ot the lme and before the half ended Neborak unleashed a 30 yard pass to blg Ug NICKISSIC tor another touchdown In the second half the team scoreda qulck slx pomts when Hakun plough ed over from the two N eborak klcked the extra po1nt and from here the Plrates coast ed to vlctory On the next Saturday Boyertown mvaded the home fleld of the Buccaneers The Dutch team was the best that the Plrates had met all season and put up a tremendous flght for vlctory After a scoreless flrst quarter Sprlng Llty marched 76 yards for the flrst score wlth Barclay golng over from the two In the second half the Bears scored on a hne buck but mlssed the extra po1nt maklng the score 7 6 Late 1n the thlrd perlod Dlck Frederlck vaunted Sprlng Clty s end blocked a Boyertown punt and recov ered lt on the opponents 27 yard llne Wlth Hakun DeWalt and Barclay lugglng the ball the home team scored agam wlth Barclay tallymg from the three Neborak made both extra polnts to make the fmal score read 14 6 and now everyone began to talk about Thanksglvmg Turkey Day rolled around and brought together two undefeated and untled foot ball teams Sprmg Clty and Royersford The flrst half was mostly a klckmg battle be tween the two teams wlth the score bemg 0 0 at the end of the second perlod It was ln the thlrd perlod that the Plrates rose to thelr full mlght and exploded a powerful ground attack by pushmg over the wmnlng touchdown It was late ln the thlrd perlod when the Pnates started thelr touchdown march After Neborak Hakun and Barclax tore off several flrst downs Dead Eye Ne borak rlpped off 36 yards on a double reverse Barclay made 15 yards and Hakun 5 yards to put the ball m scorlng posltlon when the perlod ended It was early ln the fourth perlod when Barclay scored from the one the try for the po1nt was wxde After Art Stauffer mtercepted a pass from Royersford terrltory Bull Hakun began to tear the opposlng lme apart carrymg the ball down to the one yard lme when Father Tlme brought to a close the 1946 football season All of our team s vlctorles were made poss lble by the boys ln the l1ne who were seldom mentloned but deserve as much credlt as the backs These llnesmen are Isett Kurtas Peterman Tax lor Noel Deevy, Rexmuth Stauffer and Hulvey They are the boys who opened the holes Page Flfty two ' an 11 1 - 1 , - . . l 1 . . .
