According to most authorities, the purpose of a year- book is to record graphically the events of a particular institution during a particular year. In the 1958 Bruin, we have tried to do much more. We have attempted to give a well-rounded picture of school life at SBHS by not only recording the major high- lights, but devoting a portion of our coverage to many little things which will help each of us recall the varied experiences that set '58 apart. Our story could not have become a reality without the hard work of many students and the cooperation of almost every faculty member. While it is impossible to mention everyone who had a hand in the production of your Bruin, we feel it only fitting to give credit to those who did so much. To Taylor Publishing Company, our printers, goes our undying gratitude for doing a terrific job of transforming rough copy into this finished product. Taylor's representa- tives, Martin Hamilton and Don Weitinger, were never too busy to offer advice or roll up their shirt sleeves to lend a helping hand. Photography credit is wide-spread in this year's an- nual. Our sincere thanks to Provine Studios for shooting and processing in record time some 1200 class pictures . . . to Graham Studio for the portrait work appearing in the Beauty and Brawn division . . . and last, but far from least, to our local unsung heroes of the camera, E. Bryan and Larry Fowler. This is the largest Bruin ever produced and we take a great deal of pride in presenting it to you. As you leaf through its pages, may you relive many enjoyable moments, and perhaps even say '58 was great! If you do, then we have accomplished the pleasant task of publishing the Bruin. JW

1 r I f I I ,, if If one word would serve to characterize Spring Branch's Senior Counselor and first Dean of Girls, Annice Eccles, it would undoubtedly be devotion.', Literally, the word means ardent affection, zealous attachment- both qualities deeply felt by Mrs. Eccles for her chosen profession. Even her beloved husband Oscar states, first, above all else, comes Annice's wholehearted devotion to her work. When one feels so strongly about a chosen field, often there evolves a lack of concern for the little extras that create a warm and friendly personality - not so with Annice Eccles. Though she adheres to a strict code of ethics which motivates her to con- stantly strive for the highest standards of education for student and school, it takes but a second for a pair of dancing, dark brown eyes to reveal her delightful inner personality. Mrs. Eccles' reputation for fair play and personal regard for the individual students welfare has won her the respect and admiration of Spring Branch Highs students and fellow faculty members. To Annie Eccles -- a dedicated woman - we respectfully dedicate the '58 BRUIN. Q-Y vw, e ' . Cl! tif'
