Haylett O'Neill, President, Norman Way. Warren Stone and Pat Linthicum. These Angels with careful planning provide for the needs of our ex- panding school system. Much thought and valuable time is given freely by these gentlemen to this project. Continuous study is made of increasing enrollment so that additional educational facilities may be assured. Broad- way has never known angels like these, who put so much into the show and get nothing in return. THREE ROUSING CHEERS FOR OUR ANGELS DID YOU KNOW? 1948-49 was the first year Spring Branch Independent School District had twelve grades in its system. A total of 822 students en- rolled in all grades with 165 in Junior and Senior High. There was only one campus at that time, the present Spring Branch Elementary, without the new additions. The system boasted 22 teachers and two principals, and, of course, Dr. Landrum. Eight were graduated from Spring Branch High in June of 1949. 1955-56 finds 6750 students enrolled in eight schools. During the past five years our class as well as our school district has grown tremendously. When we were in the sixth grade we numbered only 913 now we number about 270. Our members have come from many states, and about 35 juniors are new this year. We were the last class to attend ninth grade in the high school. This year ours was the job of raising money for the Junior-Senior Prom. We set about making money with a will and attained our goal. Now we are looking forward to the realization of the climax of our high school career, senior year. 37Lf:i25fi4a5lifF5f f, - f 3f5ffYi3?..3l2? i51i.li,.1,,7g1,,,.w, .fx . LW Wszfgf,5,rf,w . They contributed a great deal to the student body and made many fast friends. Schools are schools, the world overg but Spring Branch students know now that they are very different in foreign lands. Students who were grumbling about learning a few vocabulary words in Spanish or French were amazed to have foreign students who spoke, read and wrote the English language as well if not better than they did. Not only did most of them speak English and their native tongue, but another language also. Ieda Siquera came from Brazil under the United States Exchange Program. She was one of four students from Brazil at school in this country. She was selected from the entire student population of Brazil on a competitive basis. She was a well quali- fied student here, finishing near the top of the Senior Class. She won the award for Biology. Ieda wasn't all student. She was well liked and took an active part in all school activities. Spring Branch will always remember Ieda and we feel Ieda will always remember Spring Branch. Ieda took quite a bit of Texas back to Brazil. She left her appendix. George Varcados came from Greece. His uncle was living in the community when school started, so he enrolled. His uncle subsequently moved and we lost George. He was interested in football though he didn't play. We enjoyed talking to him about how it was done in Greece. Christine Huber came from Germany. Like George, she enrolled because er par- ents lived in Spring Branch. We will always remember Christineis blue, ue eyes and her sparkling personality. SPRING BRANCH SPONSORS WHICH SPOT VARIETYR WITH OTHER HIGH SCHOOL CELEBRITIES iiffaf 1 N'- The Bruin Brigade sponsored a Spring Variety Show inviting tal- ent from other schools in the area. Kitty Jones directed the show with Jean Smith as assistant. Paul Berlin af-ted as Master of Cere- monies. Mildred Dodd was Faculty Advisor. These good students found time for many other activities at school. Each held many offices in numerous organiza- tions. Grace was active in the Bruin Brigade. By a coincidence both worked in the office for Principal Moses and both were members of the Bruin staff. In fact, they did many things together while in school. The three character- istics, scholarship, friendliness, and hounteous good humor, are exemplified by these students. STUDENTS POLL MOST VOTES FOR POPULARITY Selected hy secret hallot, Katy Brown and Steve Hough win the contest forthe most popular hoy and girl forthe session 1955-56. Katy canie to Spring liranch from another school in time to earn a diploma. She won many honors while at Spring Branch, among them Homecoming dui-liess. She was a memlier of the Brigade, an officer in the Chums and very active in all senior class activities. Katy was always there when anything was taking place and always willing to do a little more than her share. Steve Hough has four years at Spring Branch to his credit. He was active in athletics. He was president of his freshman and junior classes and a memher of the student council. As the vote indicates, everyone liked Steve and he was in the midst of all school activities. His father served for many years as a niemher of the school hoard and it looks to the editor that Steve will follow in his father's footsteps and he a leader in the community.
