Their 75-73 record did however, enable them to continue a tradition which started eight years ago. This tradition is that the Cougar Baseballers have never experienced a losing season. The team had one of its best starts to date, bringing back a 5-3 record from their southern trip which took them to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Chattanooga, Tennessee. Lack of a strong pitching staff and too many errors caused the Cougars to play only .500 ball when they returned home for their regular season.(SSM) 42

The individual honors of the 1971 Baseball team were awarded to Steve Morrow, Terry Rohe, and Robin Eberle. Steve Morrow, starting catcher for the 1970 season, put in another fine year behind the plate and was also elected Captain of the squad. Terry Rohe played his typical aggressive style of ball, both in center field and on the base paths. He had a good year and topped it off by being voted Most Valuable Player by his teammates. Robin Eberle turned in a fine performance in his second season on the Cougar squad. Robin led the Cougars in hatting this year with a .418 batting average. He was also voted Most Improved Player.
