Prophecy of prophets there be many; and some are false prophets who know not where the future is written. This prophecy is not written to please or anger, but is taken from the position of a host of stars and verified by a mirror which reveals not the present but the future. I say, Mirror, mirror on the wall Reveal the secrets of them all. Their friends, their jobs, their loves, and likes. All these things we wish tonight. Now the mirror is giving me a clear picture of my wish, and I am viewing the lives of my classmates ten years hence. There is Polly McClure standing before a huge easel making bold strokes with charcoal. A beautiful creation is taking shape on the board. To one side in a corner 1 see Woody Carr with slide rule and blue prints before him. At Norfolk, Va. we discover Hale Brooks and Donnie Bradley, who are partners in a great shipbuild¬ ing company. Carol has taught Hale that two can live as cheaply as one. In another part of the country we peer upon a small secluded building in an insignificant town. With¬ in these walls we see Professor Willie Painter with his microscope and test tubes. He is diligently search¬ ing for a solid propellant for rockets. Although Betsy Humphries ' fondest ambition was to teach science at Spottswood High School, we find her a living experiment on the moon in a golden penthouse. Over in New York City in the Bellvue hospital I discover Dr. William McCormick, intent upon the motionless form before him. Nurse Shelby Earhart is performing many necessary tasks for the doctor. In another field of science we see Dr. Carlton Truxell who is busily concerned with the animal king¬ dom. He is constantly on the move, giving many lectures, and writing speeches about his favorite subject, animals. The Government has beckoned to two of our classmates. Maynard Shifflett has gone to the air force and decided to make flying his career. Martin Chittum is sailing the high seas. Once again we return to Spottswood. There we find many of our friends. Among them we see Marvin Hutchens who is the new owner of the coast to coast Super-Speed bus line and has even monopolized the Augusta County School Buses. Across the hill from the old school we see a small white cottage surrounded by a white picket fence. This is the home of Jo Ann Miller and her husband Bob. Jo Ann is a wonderful cook and loves to sew. Our successful farmer is Charlie Harris. He is constantly using the latest farming methods which he learned at college. We find Mary Ann Smiley is the new Spottswood High School secretary. She takes dictation and types very well. Among the small fry at the newly opened Spottswood Kindergarten, we can hardly find the teacher Martha Chittum. Her diminutive stature enables her to keep up with her group of active children. Jimmy Taylor has been hired by the Electric Company to repair their lines, since he is tall enough to reach them without a ladder. Across the ocean in the Buckingham Palace, in England, 1 see Jane Lotts, a private tutor, instructing the Royal children of the Queen. Our own Faye Phillips is a celebrity. She is now considered the world’s greatest woman athlete. She excels in every kind of sport although basketball is still her favorite. We find Edna Hite touring the country with her spouse, Walter. They do most of their traveling by airplane. The reason is that Jo Ann Ramsey is an experienced airline hostess on the same airline by which they travel. Now we see Mrs. Colonna our Senior Sponsor dressing Trooper Colonna Junior. She is preparing him for the path which we so recently trod. As for myself, Betty Sue Carter, 1 have become a spiritualist and hold seances every night. The images of the mirror are growing faint and the future fades into darkness. Betty Sue Carter, Prophetess
