Prophecy of prophets there be many; and some are false prophets who know not where the future is written. This prophecy is not written to please or anger, but is taken from the position of a host of stars and verified by a mirror which reveals not the present but the future. I say, Mirror, mirror on the wall Reveal the secrets of them all. Their friends, their jobs, their loves, and likes. All these things we wish tonight. Now the mirror is giving me a clear picture of my wish, and I am viewing the lives of my classmates ten years hence. There is Polly McClure standing before a huge easel making bold strokes with charcoal. A beautiful creation is taking shape on the board. To one side in a corner 1 see Woody Carr with slide rule and blue prints before him. At Norfolk, Va. we discover Hale Brooks and Donnie Bradley, who are partners in a great shipbuild¬ ing company. Carol has taught Hale that two can live as cheaply as one. In another part of the country we peer upon a small secluded building in an insignificant town. With¬ in these walls we see Professor Willie Painter with his microscope and test tubes. He is diligently search¬ ing for a solid propellant for rockets. Although Betsy Humphries ' fondest ambition was to teach science at Spottswood High School, we find her a living experiment on the moon in a golden penthouse. Over in New York City in the Bellvue hospital I discover Dr. William McCormick, intent upon the motionless form before him. Nurse Shelby Earhart is performing many necessary tasks for the doctor. In another field of science we see Dr. Carlton Truxell who is busily concerned with the animal king¬ dom. He is constantly on the move, giving many lectures, and writing speeches about his favorite subject, animals. The Government has beckoned to two of our classmates. Maynard Shifflett has gone to the air force and decided to make flying his career. Martin Chittum is sailing the high seas. Once again we return to Spottswood. There we find many of our friends. Among them we see Marvin Hutchens who is the new owner of the coast to coast Super-Speed bus line and has even monopolized the Augusta County School Buses. Across the hill from the old school we see a small white cottage surrounded by a white picket fence. This is the home of Jo Ann Miller and her husband Bob. Jo Ann is a wonderful cook and loves to sew. Our successful farmer is Charlie Harris. He is constantly using the latest farming methods which he learned at college. We find Mary Ann Smiley is the new Spottswood High School secretary. She takes dictation and types very well. Among the small fry at the newly opened Spottswood Kindergarten, we can hardly find the teacher Martha Chittum. Her diminutive stature enables her to keep up with her group of active children. Jimmy Taylor has been hired by the Electric Company to repair their lines, since he is tall enough to reach them without a ladder. Across the ocean in the Buckingham Palace, in England, 1 see Jane Lotts, a private tutor, instructing the Royal children of the Queen. Our own Faye Phillips is a celebrity. She is now considered the world’s greatest woman athlete. She excels in every kind of sport although basketball is still her favorite. We find Edna Hite touring the country with her spouse, Walter. They do most of their traveling by airplane. The reason is that Jo Ann Ramsey is an experienced airline hostess on the same airline by which they travel. Now we see Mrs. Colonna our Senior Sponsor dressing Trooper Colonna Junior. She is preparing him for the path which we so recently trod. As for myself, Betty Sue Carter, 1 have become a spiritualist and hold seances every night. The images of the mirror are growing faint and the future fades into darkness. Betty Sue Carter, Prophetess

Mist ory of the Senior Class On a bright September morning in 1947 a group of wide-eyed girls and boys began a long journey toward a distant goal. We were under the guidance of Mrs. W. R. Wilson during our first year. Of the original group these reached the big goal together: Jane Lotts, Martha Chittum, Jo Ann Miller, Jo Ann Ramsey, Polly McClure, Billy McCormick, Donnie Bradley, Charlie Harris, Martin Chittum, Carlton Truzell, and Marvin Hutchens. Our second year we were guided by Mrs. Susie McCormick. Betsy Humphries, Mary Ann Smiley, and Woody Carr joined us that year. Miss Mary McClure was our patient guide during our third year. Willie Painter joined us in the fourth grade. We were under the guidance of Miss Carrie Lucas that year. Marvin Hutchens left us at the end of the fourth grade. During our stay in the fifth grade we were taught by Mrs. Katherine Humphries. Shelby Jean Earhart joined our group that year. In the sixth grade our teacher was Miss Florence Turk. Betty Sue Carter entered our class that year. The highlight of our sixth year was a trip to Williamsburg. In the seventh grade Mrs. Lyle Humphries was our instructor. An important event in the seventh grade was our operetta. Finally, we had reached the second step of our journey. We were in high school! The word Senior was now a reality instead of a dream. We were joined by Maynard Shifflett and re¬ joined by Marvin Hutchens. Our teachers in the eighth grade were Mr. Harry Carter, Mrs. Gro¬ ver East, Mrs. Lyle Humphries, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Vannoy, Miss Ruth Huffman, Mr. William Springer, and Mr. Richard Catron. The next year we were silly sophomores. Faye Phillips and Jimmie Taylor joined our class. Our instructors were: Mr. Carter, Mrs. East, Mrs. J. W. Ramsey, Mrs. Gordon Ramsey, Mrs. Twyman Heizer, Miss Ruth Huffman, Mr. Cecil Layman, and Mr. Arthur Thomas. This was Joan Clifton ' s first year as school secretary. The following year, we were jolly juniors. Hale Brooks joined our class. Our teachers were: Mr. Carter, Mrs. East, Mrs. Heizer, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Layman, Mrs. J. W. Ramsey, Mrs. Gordon Ramsey, Mr. Arthur Thomas, and Miss Joan Clifton, Secretary. The Highlights of our Junior year were our class play, Henpecked Henry, which was very successful, and our Junior-Senior Prom. Finally, our Senior year had arrived. At last a long awaited dream had come true. We were Dignified Seniors. Our faculty consisted of: Mrs. Claude Colonna, Mr. Carter, Mrs. East, Mrs. J. W, Ramsey, Mrs. Gordon Ramsey, Mr. Richard Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Layman, and Mrs. Harry Miller, Secretary. Edna Hite joined our class. Among the highlights of our last year are many cherished memories: our class play, No Boys Allowed, the day our class rings arrived, our trip to Jamestown to see Queen Elizabeth, the New Year ' s Eve Dance we sponsored, the prom given by the Juniors, and our wonderful class trip to New York. Now we have come to the goal toward which we have worked for the past eleven years - our high school graduation, and it is with mixed emotions that we stand here tonight. We are proud and happy to have attained our goal, yet sad to realize that this marks the end of many happy associations, we will long remember. We are grateful to our teachers and to our parents who have worked so faithfully to make this night possible. Polly McClure, Historian
