Y Crusader's Spring x..2 Da 1975 A beard contest was a feature of the Spring Crusad- er's Day held at Wee-Ma-Tuk Hills. Dr. Gary King won the faculty division: Martha Iuraco, by rear- ranging her lengthy pony-tail, was declared the stu- dent winner. Most of the students took advantage of the free barbecued ribs, French bread, salad, and beans. After tennis and golf in the afternoon, students attended an open air concert presented by Harvey Mandel and the Stringbean String Band. 15' I YQ ,, Q T ' ' J., Cl'USild Y' ' N ffm 1 F 1 , all Submarine sandwiches and pizzas were free to all comers - and so was the rain. But Crusader's Day comes only once a semester, and Big Creek comes equipped with a shelter house . Senate Advisor Ed Georgieff, with a stu- dent volunteer Cat lefty carried picnic tables into the shelter before crowds of students and teachers began arriving for the noon meal. l a W, -4 wa, Da 1975 Not all of them were as well protected from the deluge as Mrs. Hedin was in her African safari hat Cbottom of pagej, who shared a table with Jack Frame and Phil Gover. Senate President Mary Jo Bavery and Stu- dent Senate members planned the event including the dance held that night in the Student Center. The all-college play was directed by Janet Gardner. Student director was Eldon Beever, who also played one of the leading roles. Members of the cast Cshown in a line-up at rehearsal far left on facing pagej were: Mark Tippett, Jeanette Davis, Beever, lan Solecki, Ron Lynch and Pam Lane . Bob Shinn Cat lefty was in charge of lighting. He was assisted by Paul Lane and Lee Trotter. Other students helping with production included: Dan Foster, Glen Fredericks, Jan Skiles, Cheryl Dennis, Pat Swartz- baugh, Holly Vandermeer. The bachelor apartment set was constructed by Don English and Dwayne Byers. vl- ff N V N. A seed-spitting contest and a not-so-neat melon eating contest precedes the more conventional entertain- ment. Each year claims are made for breaking records in long distance seed spitting, with no consideration given to wind factors. Last August, Pat Knickerbocker Ccenter abovej surpassed all competitors in the previously male-dominated event. Kevin Meade Caboveb, in spite of still competition from Grant Campbell Qabove rightj consumed the most watermelon. Genesis played for dancing in the cafeteria later. Arrangements for Stormin' In were made by Student Senate members. l I 3 Vw-A ,ff N l ff' -we 4 A if Nw., Wx '12, if pu 'W 0', ' 0 ' o 'bong ' 0 9 0 9 0 o 0 ' U o oo' v X 9+ 5' if Q 3 A .far ' , 1' 'f 4 A - ,535 r Z , - I is ' r V ' , v ,x 1 an I 4' r I S x I' 1 A A I 9' fun, ir mi , I 1 i 4 A ,uf ' 9 - ,469 hw V N A l 2' Us 'W nwsmQl'fQ ,lu lm-1 15' -if -2 -Q-. Halloween Dance 5. 1 ff Prince Rick Bannister, team member, and Princess Rhonda Miller, cheerleader, were introduced to the crowd at halftime . Homecoming '75 Although Keokuk dampened Homecoming spirits by defeating the Crusaders 58-51, halftime activities and dancing to the music of Tapestry after the game made the advance work of the Student Senate worthwhile. April Blessman and Kevin Gilson, popular sophomores, were announced as winners of the King and Queen titles at the game and received congratulations from friends at the dance . l 4 Hundreds of students lined up in the student center for the free turkey dinner served the day before Thanksgiving break. Entertainment was provided by the SRC Minstrels. The crowds were even larger when Western Illinois University's Newcomers sang a variety of popular songs and showed some snappy choreography that won a standing ovation from the audience .
