Butterflies J Between acts socializing Are Free Butterflies Are Free, a comedy by Leonard Gershe, was the first all-college play presented on SRC's new campus. Presented on April 2 and 3, 1974, the four-charac ter cast played to standing room only both nights in the Academic building's all-purpose room. Cast members were Ted Simon, Jeanette Davis, Debi Pettet and Steve Sticklen. The play was directed by Janet Gardner, speech instructor, assisted by Jeanette McWhorter and Nancy Winship, student directors. Students helping with the production included Eldon Beever, Dan Fos- ter, Joe Berardi, Will Barth, Jeanette Haley, Billie Miller, Sue Wiseman, Vicki Norris, Pat Swartz- baugh. Stormin' In Sure cure for shyness the first week at college is a seed-spittin' contest, followed by a watermelon eating competition. A new sport was originated but no credits were given. The Senate-sponsored Stormin' In events were held on the patio and in the Student Center. Mel Blessman, freshman, Ctop lefty set a super-spit record of 28'51!2 . Mike McMeen came in second and Roberta Sherman, third. McMeen proved his talent later by con- suming 7!8 of a melon, followed closely by Eldon Beever and Kaye Walton Cfar left, opposite pageb. Jeff Steig- leder Cmiddle photo abovej upheld the honor of the basketball team, but bowed to the superiority of Shield photographer Eldon Beever Cupper right.J Another Shield photographer, Pat Knickerbocker Clarge photo, oppo- site pagel admitted to being an amateur at the sport. The New Watermelon Rhythm Band provided music for the rest of the evening.
