Par- ticipants in all -school activities, the Greeks won election for three of five freshman senators in the fall. All but one officer of Student Senate are members of Greek organi- zations . The Council presented a plaque to the school on which the names of Outstanding Greek of the Year will be inscribed. To be eligible for this fraternity one must carry at least twelve semester hours for one semester and receive a cumula- tive grade point average of 3 .25 or better on a 4 .O scale . The student must show leader- ship, be of good moral character, and must have received the approval of at least three faculty members . The national theme for Phi Theta Kappa for 1970-71 is Man a part of nature, man apart from nature . In keeping with this theme, members visited Chatauqua National Wildlife Refuge and listened to Frank Bellrose, an internationally known conservationist . Kathy takes down joe's dictation. 46 Senate members concentrated their efforts this year on developing a program that in some Way would be of interest to every student in school. The Senate was able to extend its activity programs beyond the scope of holiday dances and picnics . Included in the program were such events as free flicks in the Dungeon, free rock concert in a local theater, Coffee with the Clergy and with the Brass, sophomore scholarships, gifts for elected kings and queens of dances, and expanded activities for Crusaders' Days Senators elected from Within their group these of- ficers for first semester: joe Dal Pozzo, president Margaret Hutchison, vice president, Kathy Clay- pool, secretary, Terry Long, treasurer . Advisors, senators agree to add snack food machines to the Dungeon Student Volunteer Corps 1 SRC's newest and largest organization is the Student Volunteer Corps Stan Howard and Steve Ladd's brainchild reached a membership of 137 in its first year of existence. The volunteers' projects included assisting special education teachers in local schools, tutoring and counseling area school children, advising Gra -Y Clubs, aiding the elderly in the I-Iighrise and Sunset Nursing Home, and Operation Oak- lawn. The Student Volunteer Corps has resulted in improved coopera tion between the community and the college and has given students an opportunity to become involved. 48 Deeds Do . Words Could More Than Ever Do. 49 Christmas Dance Goes Informal An informal concert-dance, a Student Senate innovation, attracted a large crowd to the Elks Club ballroom for the Christmas Dance where Sally Gris- wold and john Ayers were crowned Queen and King. Attendants for the royalty were Sue Sloan, Barb DeLost, Chris Husby, Ed Satterfield, Mike Rauth and Walter Zessin. Margaret Hutchison, Senate vice president and dance chairman, presented gifts to the winners including a tiara for the queen. The Light Brigade won fans with music that kept the dance floor crowded throughout the evening.
