Q ,T Pep Squad Shortly after the beginning of school, the S. H.S. Pep Squad was organized. The following officers and leaders were elected: President, Janet Speck: Vice President, Carolyn Hickman Secretary and Treasurer,V9r0 Oyler, Cheerleaders, Donna Tharp, Joan Travis, Vera Oyler, and Janet Speck. Mrs. Judd was sponsor of the organization. The girls chose dark skirts and white blouses with a black and red tie at the neck as their pep squad uniform. The leaders' uniforms were red turtle-neck sweaters and black corduroy circle skirts, The pep squad and its cheerleaders really helped in cheering our teams on to victory. Rah! Rahl Rah! lnltlatn n ByTeddae On September ll, l953, the freshmen came to school dressed In queer garbs which the lunlors had specufied The gurls wore their dads overalls, cut off at the knee and frlnged for four Inches They wore a panr of hugh heeled shoes, nylon stocknngs, and a hat on thelr head. The boys were asked to wear a short sklrt and a blouse They wore a necklace of macarom around their neck and around one leg Around the other leg, they wore a strung of empty spools They wore an old shoe on one foot and a shoe box on the other foot They were required to carry a tin can wuth the label on it and a ballng ware handle The wore a kettle with a handle on their heads with ten feathers hanging down the back of the handle They were all required to wear ballng wire bracelets, sux on each arm, and plenty of make-up ln the evenmg they were guests at a party ln the school gymnasium The freshmen were required to glve a stunt, and other games were played The sensors were In charge of the games, and the sophomores served refreshments 35 t
