Conference Champs by Janet The l953-54 basketball season has proved to be very successful for the Lady Pirates. They started their season by playing Mt. Moriah, October 2, and winning over them by a score of 50 to l2. Throughout the season some ofthe players have had off nights. lt so happened that only one or two would be going like that in one game. They have played in three tournaments. The first tournament which they entered was the conference tournament which was held at Mercer, November T3 to 20. November 30 to December 4, they played in the Laclede tournament, in the following week they also played in the tournament at Ridgeway, to be able to say they had won three first trophies within three weeks. They have played eleven conference games and nine non-conference games, this makes a total of twenty games. They are proud to say they have lost no games. When the chips were down, Mr. Reger, our coach always came out with something to help win the games. The starting line up for forwards has been Jannette McHargue, Vera Nell Oyler, and Janet Speck, the starting line up for the guards has been Jenny Gale Willard. Erma Brown, and Joan Travis, the substitutes are Donna Tharp, Vera RileY1 Delores Brown, Bette Kincade, Judy Tracy, Bemiece, and Henrietta Christowskif The seniors on the basketball squad wish that the coming teams may have lots of success and come out victorious for Spickard High School. iii ,P 5 A 'Q Q N, s .t z ?'ji 9' A 2 J 11 bl. ff 1 is I ci ' A K K ff3f?2n'5' ' ? 7,f?i,Vf31? , , , , k '-',A 1-,L 4 ff 'gfxvv' P ' If , , A , ,.,. , , fek wn I , F?
