The lilull Repair Division tR'lJ consists of the following shops. Shiplrtter Shop tl IAJ has the capability to work heavy metal plate, fabricate and repair structures, superstructures, machine mounting and foundations. .Sheetrnetal Shop f17AJ has the capability to fabricate and repair all types of thin sheetmetal struc- tures including spot welds, rivet and pop rivet structures. Weld Shop f26AJ has the capability to perform all types of welding including welding in nuclear plant systems. Pipe Shop Q56Aj has the capability to Repair and fabricate piping configurations including pressure testing components upon completion of work. CarpenterfPattern Shop f64BJ has the capability to accomplish all types of wood construction and repairs including fabrication of all types of patterns. Canvas Shop C74AJ nas the capability of working canvas, leather and various upholstery materials. Foundry f8lAj has the capability to perform ferrous and non-ferrous casting work, fabrication of metal products of all shapes and sizes. Machinery Repair Division CR-21 consists of 14 different shops incorporated in four main shops. Machine Shop has capabilities of lathe, milling machine, grinding, electroplating and engraving various components of submarines. Outside Machine Shop performs most of the major jobs on the submarines hydraulics, pumps, valves, masts, and motor and generator alignments. The shop also overhauls governors, injectors of diesel engines, and air conditioning systems as well as chemical analysis of water, oils, and fuels. Mechanical Instrument Repair and Calibration Shop CMIRCS LAB, 35Bj overhauls and repairs various type of guages, tachometers, torque wrenches, office machines and watches and clocks. The shop also has capabilities to manufacture keys and overhaul locks of various types. Optical Shop f35Aj main objective of this shop is to overhaul and repair all types of submarine periscopes and related navigational aidsi such as sextants, binoculars, bearing and azimuth circles. Electrical Repair Division CR-31 overhauls, rewinds, and tests motors and generators of units of CSF-l. The Gyro Repair section tests and overhauls all gyros and IC related equipment. The Rubber and Plastics section of R-3 fabricates and molds all types of rubber and plastics for utilization of units of CSF-l. The Electronics Repair Division CR-45 is charged with the responsibility of providing the following services: Repairs and alterations to electronic equipment and devices, including sonar, radar, ECM IFF navigation, R.F. recievers and transmitters, Make repairs and alterations to shipboard antennas and super- vise the antenna improvement program, Perform tests and checks on electronic equipment as required under various maintenance programs, such as the 3M system, Maintain the Fleet Electronics Standards and Calibration of electrical and electronic test equipment requiring calibration by this facility. The Radiological Controls Division QR-55 main concern is the safe repair of Nuclear Systems on Nuclear Powered Submarines. Some of the functions associated with this are, Monitering for radiation, repair and calibration of radiation detection instruments, processing and disposing of radioactive waste from Nuclear Powered Submarines, and providing Pure Water for Conventional and Nuclear Powered Submarines. Repair Services Division fR-61 consists of the following: Repair Admin-Plays an important part in the management of repairs for which SPERRY is responsible within the submarine force. Repair Admin is responsible for planning, scheduling and execution of all repair work and alteration to units of Submarine Squadrons THREE and FIVE and Submarine Development Group ONE. CPO's are assigned as Ship Superintendents, and act as liaison with the ship and repair office ensuring all information and materials are available for orderly progress in the repair of submarines assigned. Maintenance Data Control System Coordinators are responsible for training personnel in Maintenance Data Collection System and receiving and reviewing all incoming work requests and time cards for the Repair Department. 37A-Print Shop-Provides complete shipboard printing service, which includes a wide variety of printing services from miscellaneous forms to formal programs, menus, invitations, shipboard instructions and cruise books used for Navy functions. This book was printed on board USS SPERRY QAS-125. 39A-Photo Lab- A completely modern photographic laboratory capable of processing various types of film. A qualified photographer is available for taking pictures of activities and events which take place within the submarine community in the San Diego area. F The R-7 Quality Assurance Division has the responsibility to instruct, direct, audit, and generally oversee all quality control and quality assurance functions onboard USS SPERRY and units tended. The R-7 Division is also charged with the tasks of performing all nondestructive testing, such as radiography, ultrasonics, liquid penetrant, and magnetic particle inspections along with serving as a support unit for technical research, nuclear planning, and drafting services. 19 REPAIR DEPARTMENT
