SENIOR PROPHECY This question has often been asked the Seniors on their Commencement Day: Where will you be and what'will you be ten years from today? We Juniors will climb aboard our flying saucer, set the controls for the year 1962, and answer for them. There is a big roar, and we're off. As we glide over the cities and towns, our magic saucer steers us toward Indianapolis, the home of America's greatest professional basketball team. Our attention is immediately drawn to one spectacular neon sign, announcing the final National Championship ball game and the name of the star player-- RAYMOND RUSH CARNAI-IAN, At this point our magic saucer lands in front of the box office of the gym. As we step up to buy our tickets, we see a familiar face behind the window. It's Eddie Hook! In answer to our startled looks, Ed says that he took this part-time job of selling tickets because his job of coaching a Junior High team didn't pay enough to feed and clothe his wife, the former Margery Holla- baugh, and their triplets. Midge has taken a job on the side of taking in washings also. One of her best customers is Gloria Steward, who has been writing the newspaper column, Advice to the Love Lorn. Besides the newspaper column to keep her busy, she has been seeing a lot of the famous muscle builder, Arles Catles, formerly known as Billy Wilder. He has developed his muscles until now he is known as Mr. Physique of 1962. While we are waiting for game time, let's go into this restaurant to get something to eat. Well, what do you know? There's Jim Knop, flipping hotcakes behind the counter. He's pretty good at it, too! As we sit down, Jim comes over to say hello to us. Well, Jim, so you've been visiting John Witt on his ranch in Colorado? Yeah, he says, as his bow-legs wobble back to the grill, but never again! We'll have to visit John when we continue our journey. It is now 11:30 p. m. and the Championship game is over. Big Ray racked up 56 points for his team tonight and won the game! Now 4 a. m. and back on board the flying saucer! Our course is due west from Indianapolis and we're headed for the open range. Oh, oh, what's that huge structure looming up in front? A new expansion bridge across the Mississippi River, and as the dawn breaks, we hear the foreman shouting instructions from a high ramp at the top of the bridge. It's none other than our old friend, Dale Butler. Dale sees us and waves, but he's too busy to stop and chat. He's going full speed, as usual. At twilight we enter Denver just in time to get into a big, new super market to buy some groceries for our evening meal. There, in all her glory, is the manager of the store, Bonnie Furnish. Right next door to Bonnie's supermarket we see a Joke and Novelty Shop. This should be interesting, let's go in. Oooops! As we open the door a sheet falls over our heads and we hear the hearty laughter of the proprietor, Jerry Baker. Well, we might have known that Jerry would be in this sort of business. Never a dull moment with Jerry around! We stop at the first motel we see and who should be the owner but Peggy Romine. It's such a cozy place, too, so we'll stay for the night. It's morning! Everybody up! We're on our way to San Francisco, the home of the Golden Gate Bridge. We breakfast at a roadside cafe, and to our amazement we have soft lilting music and sweet, sultry tones to accompany our toast and coffee. We investigate and find that it is Helen Surfus at the piano and Shirley Ritenour singing. After Shirley finishes her song, she tells us that they are both working there in the evenings and raising their families in the day time. What a surprise when we learn that their employer is Madolyn Reid! Mady is staying in Los ,Angeles at the present and attending U.-C. L. A. with her new husband, Bob. Let's hop aboard our saucer and go down to Los Angeles. Ah, yes, there's the campus! We'll never be able to find Mady in this big place. Ah, there's a familiar face. Why: it's Carolyn Kimes! Carolyn, how are you? Whatare you doing now? So you're the professor of Commercial Subjects at U. C. L.A. That is quite a position. How do you like your work? Fine, except when my students play hooky as Madolyn Reid did today! Well, I guess that means there is no hope of seeing Mady today. It's high time we were headed back East, don't you think? Let's set the controls, and away we go! The magic saucer isn't stopping in Indiana this time. We're shooting straight for New York, and La Guardia Airport. Watch out for that airplane! Whew! Almost hit us! We've got to see who that reckless pilot is. There he is now. So! lt's Jack Haas! Jack tells us that he is the top flight pilot at La Guardia now. That is reason enough to forgive him for our near mishap, don't you think? Good luck on future missions, Jack! I..et's take this taxi into New York. Here we are on Wall Street. I wonder if there is anyone here from little, old Spencerville '? There goes a Spencerville graduate now. Hey, Art, slow down! What's your hurry? Oh, you're a lawyer now and you've got a case in court in ten minutes '? All right, we'll forgive you this time. Bye, now. Back in the saucer again, northeast toward Connecticut this time. There, in the town of New London we land in front of a new Clinic. As we enter we are greeted by the superintendent of nurses, Pat Akey. Pat enjoys her work and says that she likes the location, so we have found another happy graduate of 1952. It's getting time to head back home again. Yes, there's no place like home. But wait, we seem to have missed one of the Seniors somewhere along the way. Oh, here she is. Right under our noses in the town of Spencerville. She has just settled down in our little town to raise her family and be a housewife. Patricia Timmerman is the only one who didn't stray very far from home. JOURNEY ENDED! It seems that these Seniors of 1952 are to be scattered like chaff in the A wind to every corner of our country and yet we're betting that they will never forget Spencerville High School, their Alma Mater.
