Not only has he worked unceasingly for the advancement of the school, but the community problems also have been of concern and interest to him. No worthy project lacked for his support, no problem was ever slightedg no policy for the better- ment of all was to meager for considera- tion by him. He has been and is our princi- pal in deed and in fact as well as in word. He is our coach, and twice during the past sixteen years, he has piloted our Raiders to victory--to the sectional in 1947, to the county in 1950. As our class sponsor, his helpful sug- gestions and advice have shaped our class activities and decisions. In appreciation, then, for his sym- pathetic understanding of our problems and his devoted service to all, especially students--past and present--we the Sen- iors of 1950 do dedicate this edition of the Spenconian to our class sponsor, our coach, and our principal, Mr. Everett H. Paschen. Sponsored by THE SENIORS OF 1950 Page Three W.QzQTlf!': I iliwsrwz s its? .,i wfvs ., ,gi5vgt:gs.s I 'Ex-7 'Vwfii f .- timers? Ri F fm if . ARTICLE II TO THE FACULTY: We bequeath all the trouble and grief of producing a class efficient enough to fill the vacancy left 'by us. You'll certainly have your hands full! Knowing that our days of schooling are numbered, we hereby request that our desires be carried to the fullest extent. Sworn to and attested by this day of May, 1950. Sponsored by JOHN KOCH, SALESMAN FEDERAL FERTILIZER Page Sixteen add l'Ol9 QC, One warm spring day, April 7, 1961 we, the Seniors of 5l decide to have a class reunion and return to our Alma Mater to see how those left are getting along without us. We wander, very leisurely, into the Assembley and immediately our attention is drawn to the reading table where we find the latest edition of our favorite newspaper, the Who's in Mischief monthly. Naturally we are eager to learn the current home town news and see what this pocket-size newspaper has to offer. We see splatteredall over the front page, headlines saying, Seniors of '50' Escaped. Are Out to Make a Name for Themselves . We read column after column, telling of the escape, and we read that the police are pleading. 'Please do not bring them to us. What do you think we left the key in the cell door for? It wasn't for ornament! Well, well, our old chums are on the loose again. Let's read on, maybe we'll find more about them. On the second page we find an advertisement which is telling us about the new Foni Spin Curlers and Wave set. And guess who the Foni twins are? None other than Jack and Gene Mann. Be- neath the picture of our lovely twins, it says, Jack, the twin at the left has the new Foni. We wonder where the curls are, but that's the S64 question. And speaking of S64 questions, we see on the radio advertising page that Jim Dwyer, that new radio quiz- master, has a new show called, You leave it and I'll take it. Jim really turned out to be a good, honest man, and such an honest job too. Well, my goodness! Here in the Hollywood column we see that the glamorous and beautiful Ellen Mae Knop is playing in her latest picture, The Blushing Bride. She also does singing now. She is singing with Vaughn Monroe in a new version of Mule Train, She surely has a knack in slinging that whip. Now we see a very interesting article by Professor J. Wade Bowser, formerly Jerry. The title is, How to Avoid Splinters in the Throat While Chewing a Match. We were often puzzled on how Jerry kept from choking to death, because we knew he must have swallowed a lot of sawdust. Oh,here is the Sports page and we see that a new coach has come into being. His name is Herbert fHerbiej Hoover. The name of his team is the Hoover Hotshots. Last week they played the Globe Trotters and simply made fools of them. The final score was Z-0 with coach Hoover as high-point man. We think their team name fits them splendidly. On the same page we see our favorite comic strip of Little Sport , and who else is he than Davy Doll. He's making a bet on his racing form, that the famous horse, Slough-Slough, will come in first in the long run. Now who else could be taking his bets than the ever famous bookie, Jim Webb, He's always putting a bug in someone's ear about who's going to win the races that day. It's usually Beetlebomb . We're glad he's gotten himself such a character fitting job. Sponsored by JUNIOR CLASS Page Seventeen aaa I prolakecy In the next section of the paper, we turn to the Society page and see that today's famous cooking teacher, who teaches only newly- weds, is Adah Ruth Gerig. Today's recipe is: How to Boil Water with Success. Her instructions are: Measure one cup of water carefully, put it into pan and place over high heat, bring to rapid boil. Go away for fifteen minutes or so. When you come back, you will see a marvelous sight. Get next month's paper and I will tell you how to clean out a badly burnt pan. Very interestin-g!We'll have to try it sometime. In the lovelorn column we find that Patsy Angel has opened a Lonely Heart's Club and is giving advice free to the lovelorn. Her motto is, Experience is the Best Teacher. In the Marriage Column, we read that Gerald Gerig has found himself a cook. Marlene Cook, that is. The newly-weds are taking a long honeymoon to Butler, and will stay for one whole day at the Butler Hotel. When they return from their honeymoon, they will reside in Spencerville at their new restaurant, called The Gerig and Cook Eating-nook. While Cook cooks, Gerig will auction the food off to the highest bidder. Under the latest fashions we find that Phyllis Warner ------ starring under the name of Madamoselle Fifi ------ is modeling the new Paris sweaters. It says Madamoselle Fifi started her career while in high school. Here is an ad that says, quote. Wanted: young or old people who wish to learn to drive. Come to the Longardner Driving Acad- emy. Instructor: Doris Longardnerf' I garuantee to start you as pupils and leave you as patients. Fee--after you crack up, I'll take the money I need. Thank you. On the opposite page in a little corner, we see that Lois Romine, a dietitian, is giving lessons on how to keep slim, and look very trim ---- Don't follow me. What's this we see. Oh yes, Let's explore your mind, written by the great psychiatrist, Geraldine Shull. Her main question today is: Do Seniors really regret when they graduate? Answer is YES, because most generally we're better off in school than where we are now. Here's a little ad in a corner all by itself. It says, I, Everett Paschen, will give reward to anyone who will invent a rubber car that will not crack up. James Webb, who took a few driving lessons at Longardner's Driving Academy advises him to get a horse. Now we shall bear in mind all the good news we read about our old school chums. We see that the Seniors have made quite a name for themselves and we the future Seniors of SO hope they will continue their successes in all their many adventures. C0llI'lfg llftffley Sponsored by UNIVERSAL TOOL AND DIE COMPANY AFTER THE GAME 7 AG, OIQIQQHQJ . Spencerville's basketball team was of superior strength duringCoach Paschen's last coaching season. The Raiders won 13 out of the 16 scheduled games plus the winning of the Dekalb County Tourney. This was a great honor for the school, be- cause we had not held the county title since 1928. However, in 1947, the Raiders car- ried off the sectional crown, winning from Garrett in a closely contested game. 'Al' Paschen, our husky center, has been high scoring man during the entire season. 'Eddie' Hook has made himself outstanding by dribbling out of tight squeezes time after timeg for example, dribbling the ball for 1 minute and 34 seconds in the game with 'Busco at the Sectional Tourney. Remember! 'Hotrock' Hoover won his fame by his ability to in- tercept the ball. 'Spider' Webb is noted for his exceptionally good rebounding. 'Bugs' Bowser, after being out of practice for half the season witha broken arm, re- turned to do a splendid job of guarding. Powerful 'Jimmy' Dwyer has pleased our crowds by his ability to score when it is most needed. Fighting .Tack Hollabaugh has done a wonderful job of popping in baskets from the center of the floor. Big John Leonard has done a fine job of being where he is needed most at the exact moment. Fiery 'Jerry' Gerig has proved himself an efficient guard, mostly in the right court. For the past few weeks Don Lohse, because of an arm injury, has been replaced by 'Jim' Shilling, who has done very well for hirnself. The team carried their load well in the Sectional Tourney. They defeated the Hamilton Marines in the morning match. In the evening, they made a very com- manding come-back to defeat the mighty Churubusco Eagles in an overtime, the score being 52 to 50. WOW!! ln the Satur- day afternoon match, however, the Raiders lost to Ashley Aees by three points. All -in-all we have enjoyed a wonder- ful season with the mighty Raiders and were very happy when the following five Seniors received their honor sweatersg I-lotrock' Hoover, 'Jimmy' Dwyer, 'Spider' Webb, 'Bugs' Bowser and Jerry Gerig.
