Born - February 9, 1967 Died - August 21, 1983 f l S I A . sis i KE . 5 -i'ii 1 . sz? S 3 3 S 3 One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he notice two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life, This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it, Lord, you said that once l decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when l needed you most you would leave me. The Lord replied, My son, My precious child, l love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one se.t of footprints, it was then that l carried you. fi as 4,6 mal Q :Q CRCSS COUNTRY Row 1: D. Carey, J. Lewis, B. McCIurg, G. SENIORS The 1983 Cat Pack raced to the re- cord books, rolling up the most impressive season in school history. The eight seniors went out in a blaze of autumn glory at the State Cross Country Championship in Co- lumbus, November 5, The harriers placed sixth in the state among class A teams. The Pack got out to a quick start win- ning the team title at Columbus Grove's invitational. They romped to a Northwest Conference title and a sectional win. At districts, the Cat Pack dashed home sec' ond earning Coach McMichael a bath in Faurot Park's pond and the Pack a trip to Columbus. The Cat Pack won all ten of its dual meets in 1983. Also, Mark Ernst, Spencer- viIle's Most Valuable Runner, set a new school standard of 16:56 for 5000 meters. Bearcats Awards went to Norm Cummins, Dee Richardson, and Kevin Crites. The other return- ing letterman, junior Missy Brenek. played only half the games due to sur- gery. We played well defensivelyg we just couIdn't generate any offense, stated the girls' coach, Luann Youngpeter. The team always took their wins with pride and determination to keep on playing. At the sectional tournament the Bearcats lost to Crestview, Lori Bayliff was voted most valuable player. Rose Hedge was voted most improved. Lori Bayliff was selected to the first team NWC and to the District A team. LoriBayHH .af , ' ,v X Z.. The turning point in their season was when they beat Bluffton 8-73 because the Bearcats came from behind with two min- utes left in the game to win. The low point of the season was when the Bearcats lost to Paulding, for, if they had won, Spencer- ville and Paulding would have shared first place in the N.W.C. Greg Dawson, Mark Goecke, Bob Brooks, and Todd Keysor were selected first team N.W.C, David Cianciolo and Chris Hays were selected second team N.W,C, Eric Ambroza, Greg McKinley, Joe Brenek, Jerry Fetzer, and Jeff Hager were selected honorable mention N.W.C.
