Mr. Hausser was one of the many persons who helped the class to grow through education and understanding. It is with sincere gratitude that this yearbook is dedicated to the lasting memory of his great work. It has been said that our oppor- z-3, 5733 tunities to do good are our talents. 9 '21 3 We, the Senior Class, know that it 9? has only been through the opportuni- , if ties which our Parents have given us V qs l that we have been able to develop our A talents through education. We feel we can never fully repay them for what they have done. Therefore, it is by this expression of gratitude that we hope to lessen our great debt to J them. A Q' We wish to extend our apprecia- tion to our mathematics and science teacher, Mr. Collins. He has been ofmuch assistance to our class in its many projects culminating in the Washington D.C. trip which could not have been made without his help. The Class wishes to express its thanks to him. 4 if X X 4 Z fQfff2f,f QQ 39 ts. X ff . iff --as N, 1 M- TVX .am . JV. rv-,. ,A.,- grvvnnqvnt , Q tw' VX E. C. Soon you will be free to make the choices you have been wanting to make and developing the independ- ence you have long sought. It is a wonderful privilege to have this freedom because there is power in it. There is the power to conquer the world and some men have tried it and would have succeeded except that there were other men who wanted to keep their free- dom. Most of life consists of keeping our freedom without taking someone elses away from him. Which team will you choose to join? Henry P. Dow Wagner, a former member, re- ceived the American Farmer degree. He was the first member from Spencer- ville to ever receive this honor. Dwight Wolford and Gerald Keller were the nineteenth and twentieth members to receive the coveted State Farmer degree. Dwight also won third place in the State Agricultural Engineering Contest at the annual State F. F. A. Convention. Gene Goodwin and Glen Goliff received gold in the Public Speaking Contest. Glen represented the Chapter in the State Contest. Lynn Wilkins and Gary Schwartz had an expense-free trip to Kansas City for their fair winnings. Four other members accompanied them to Kansas City. Mr. Hummel took the senior class to the International Livestock Show in Chicago last fall. Some other outstanding events in which the boys participated were having a skating party, conducting a corn test, having a wiener roast, and attending an Officers Training School and the district planning meeting. The organization extends its grateful thanks to Mr. Hummel for his friendly guidance and able assistance. F. F. A. RECREATION Z GIRLS ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION LEFT TO RIGHT, ROW 1: Miss Fritz, M. FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA The Future Business Leaders of America,Chapter 741,was installed at Spencerville High School, March 30, 1953. X The purpose of the club has been to create a better understanding between the school and the business people of the communityg and by working together, to help the students prepare themselves more fully for a useful place in the business world. All the business students are eligible for membership. The group meets the second Thursday of every month. The business people of Spencerville who sponsor the club are Mr. Hugh Pohlman, Mrs. Ray Mack, and Mr. Lester Plikerd. President Vice Pres. . . . . Secretary Treasurer Reporter Senior F. B. L. A. Their jobs ranged from keeping the magazines and books orderly to helping find proper reading material for the students. Each librarian donated one period a day to the library duties. The substitutes put time in whenever a regular librarian was absent. STUDENT COUNCIL This year the Student Council under the guidance of Miss Deemer and the new principal, Mr. Zaborniak, met once each month. Several problems with future bearing on the school were solved. After careful study the standards for homecoming queen and attendants were set up to include that a girl may be attendant once in her high school years and may be queen in her senior year. Another accomplishment was the hall monitor system. According to this plan persons were placed on second and third floors to see that students weren't out of class without an excuse and to guide visitors to their destination. The council wishes to express appreciation to all who made this year very successful. President Roberta Mack Secretary Goldie Daniels Reporter Phyllis Nevergall ROW l, LEFT TO RIGHT: J. l-lirn, R. Elaine inherited the house at her uncle's death. When they got there they found Dr. Fersig, a mysterious physician, his sinister housekeeper, and deaf mute son in charge of the house. The old house was worthless but Elaine and Dr. Fersig knew there was a large sum of money hid.den somewhere in the house. Strange things happened. The bridge was blown up leaving everyone isolated on the island. Strange noises where heard, a skeleton walked through the dim shadows of the house and Elaine disappeared. Then Bill made a strange discovery and everything was straightened out. LEFT TO RIGHT: C, Moorman, R, Putman, T, Him, S, Strayer, J, Adair, M, Moorman, A, Medaugh, LEFT TO RIGHT: E, Whetstone, A.
