SCHOOL RATES HIGH IN MUSIC It has been well proven that Spencerville High School is very well represented in the musical field. The Glee Clubs and the Orchestra received excellent ratings at the musical con- tests held at Bluifton and North Baltimore. The school was very capably represented at the solo and ensemble contest held at Ohio Northern University. Evelyn Failor received one of the two superior ratings given for the soprano solo. The string quartet, composed of Dwight Becker, Dean Deniston, Ruth Hays, and Evelyn Failor, received the only excellent rating given for string ensembles. Kathryn Kelly also received an excellent rating for the horn solo. The boys' quartet, composed of Dwight Becker, Albert Sproul, Dean Deniston, and John Cochrung a flute solo by Vaughn Hiltyg trumpet solo by Wesley Sowards, and the girls' sextet composed of Hazel Goodwin, Frances Burnett, Mabel Stelzer, Ema- line Haller, Ruth Hays and Lela Bowen, all received very good ratings. The superior and excellent ratings were eligible to compete in the state contest at Oberlin. The value of meets of this kind is being rapidly realized, and has been proven by the fact that over five hundred high school musicians representing all classes, A, B, C, and CC, participated in this event. Not only do these musicians gain inspiration to improve their own playing or singing ability, but through this friendly rivalry, associations are made, many of which will last for years. Performing before a critical audience is one of the most profitable experiences a musician can have. Twenty-seve-n
