SPENCERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL 'W u Our School From 1876 To 1936 The first brick school building that was built in Spencerville was built in the year 1876. It is still standing and is a part of the present grade school building. Shortly after, a small frame building was built, in the southwest corner of the schoolground, for the primary class. Later additions were built to the brick build- ing until the present structure was evolved. At this time the school was a gram- mar school. Facilities for a high school were introduced in 1886, with an enrollment the first year of probably about twenty. As the enrollment increased the building was enlarged and for many years the high school pupils attended the building that is now the Grade School. On February 4, 1927 the new high school building was dedicated. It is a mod- ern building that is very well departmentalized and equipped. The present high school system was chartered April 14, 1905 from the commissioner of Common Schools of Ohio. The first class to graduate, which was in 1888, consisted of eight graduates. In 1933 a class of 56 graduated, which is the largest class ever to graduate from Spencer High. The present enrollment of the high school is 233 and 49 of these are destined to become the Class of '36, Six
