panorama 1955 spencel-port central school spencerpori new york of the table of contents FOREWORD DEDICATION ADMINISTRATION PERSONNEL CLASS SCENES SENIORS ACTIVITIES SPORTS ADVERTISEME NTS 2 QLA5555 ...... ....................... Our school--may it continue to be a source of light to many. foreword IGHT is the theme of the I955 Panorama. To us it represents the educational teachings and experiences that have helped ready us for our future life. We are seeking to reflect the light that shines in our school through the pages of this book. It is the light of reason that guides us on our way, helping us to take our places as responsible citizens to try to form a peaceful and better world. Asseniors of the class of l955, we hope that succeeding classes will benefit from and use the light of education. May their years at S. C. S. be as bright as ours. 3 dedication ECAUSE of her time and effort so cheerfully given to the best interests of the Panorama, because of her guidance so wisely offered, and because of her friendship so highly valued, we, the Class of i955 and the Panorama staff, dedicate this, the l955 edition of the Panorama to Mrs. Mildred W. Brandaur. Mrs. Brandaur has taught French and Latin here at Spencerport since 1948 and has been in general charge of the yearbook since l95O. Everyone invariably remembers her warm, happy charm and certainly we all thank her for her help in making our yearbook so successful. We express our sincere appreciation to a wonderful teacher, friend and advisor. V senior play HE footlights go on, the house lights dim, the curtains partl Backstage, Mr. Betlem, the director, has opened his dog-eared copy of the The Little Dog Laughed. The characters step bravely forth with o silent prayer that they will remember all the stage directions they have practiced for weeks. The play has begun. Joyce Lindsay, as Laurie, is returning from college where she is majoring in psychology. After her first year of study, she becomes an expert in this field and starts analyzing everyone. Her father, fBob Kenyonl mother, fBeverly Campbell, and younger brother fDoug Newlynl soon find out what's wrong with them mentally. The complications that follow were so involved and humorous that the little dog and audi- ence both laughed. Many scenes not in the script will remain to tickle the senior's memories--Joyce with her dress on backwards, Mary with her high heels entangled in the door frame in the second act, the missing music cuel It was much work, but much fun, too. 31 A i JOSEPHINE ALONGI Lubrary Club 2 ISoc Chaur 31 IPres 41 Leaders Club 2 3 4 Gurls Chorus 3 4 Noctette 3 4 Class Offucer Treas 31 ISec 41 Sr Play Icom1 ' siucleni council HE main goal of the Student Council this year was to gain more power and prestige as a representative of the stu- dents. Much of its work was experimental and most of the projects and accomplishments were aimed at reaching this goal. It is hoped that through its work the Student Council will be the unifying influence of the school. Included in the Student Council projects were the scheduling of eighth period activities so that there would be as little conflict as possible, the allocation of dates for outside activities, and the general improvement of school spirit. The biggest proiect of the year was STUDENTS' DAY. The Seniors planned for and taught classes, thus learning some of the problems of the faculty. This serious part of STUDENTS' DAY was followed by a student-faculty sport event and a school dance. In general the STUDENTS' DAY was an enioyable and successful one. Another iob of the Student Council was the receiving and handling of suggestions for improvement. Here is one of the suggestions received and how it was answered. Suggestion: We would like to have dancing after the basketball games. Answer: The Student Council discussed this problem and asked the administration for aid in solving it. lt was found that dances could be held if they were sponsored by a responsible organization and if some regu- lations were followed. The Council decided that they would sponsor the dances if there was sufficient interest among the students. The students were asked if they were interested in Ech a dance, and when it was found that o great many students were not, the Council dropped this plan. President ...... . . Each quarter, they compile the Honor Roll of the high school and junior high. flag guardians WO Flag Guardians are chosen each year from the Junior Class. Ruth Emer- son and Allan Belcher were selected this year. They were chosen on the basis of their scholarship and their citizenship.
