INNER FEELINGS GONE AGAIN A smile slowly fading, listening to an empty phone. Walking from the fire while my cat stares inquisitly. He and I both know its over, but caring too much to let go. The suns love rays stream through the curtains onto an empty room. Rushing in to care for lost feelings. I don’t know—just an unspoken thing. I can be in the old familiar room— feeling warm in front of myself— thinking, over old and lost times, again. Laughing . . . with my sad eyes. —Darlene Jones WHAT WAS OF A FOOTPRINT You erased him from my mind Like a footprint washed off the sand by the sea. Let us sit back and watch the ocean’s tide and drink its water in our loneliness of time. But didn’t someone once tell me that people keep walking on the sand? The waves keep rolling in, For you left a footprint, only to be washed away. —Darlene Jones WICKED grey clouds blow tauntingly at the sky, trees sway to kiss the ground— I feel like flying up to meet the darkened sky, to play tauntingly with the wind. Swoop down to kiss the ground and back up again. Feeling wicked. —Darlene Jones UNITY AND PEACE To unite we must have peace for this is what the U.N. seeks. Worldwide peace all over the land should be established among every man. c Life is short and so are the days . . . we should unite and create peace in many ways. There is no time for prejudices and hate. We must try to conquer the word called fate. Unity is man getting together where peace is to last forever where discrimination will be a word of the past . . . as we progress to obtain what will last. Ruth McKnight Picture in your mind’s eye . . . a willow tree with a beautiful scene surrounding it Just like a willow tree that stands alone, I’ve been this way since I was born. No one really cares about me. I’m just like that old willow tree. I weep, mourn, and cry. Everybody always pass me by. Each day as I go through life, I face many hardships and strife. Will I ever be fancy free and not be compared to a willow tree? Only I can find my way, Hoping to conquer the obstacles day after day. Willow tree you’re not alone. I’ve been this way since I was born. Ruth McKnight 29
