DEDICATION Voicing a basic philosophy so characteristic of our honoree, Longfellow thus penned: “Let us. then, be what we are. and speak what tee think, and in all things keep ourselves loyal to truth and the sacred professions of friend- ship. So, habitual demonstrations of friendliness and sincerity hare con- tributed immensely to the high esteem enjoyed by our Spencerian leader. At a time when Fifth Avenue School and other institutions here des- perately needed leadership coupled with keen vision and progressive educa- tion. this Principal came upon the scene with a catching enthusiasm in his struggle for excellence in school work. After achieving most appreciably, he left Columbus. Georgia, to serve as a Principal and the Supervisor in Athens. Georgia. Acconifxinied with extraordinary success there, he earned the invitation to return as Principal of Spencer High School in 1945. With a varied background of very rich experiences gained at Boggs Academy, Columbus, and Athens, our Principal has held standards high and has brought greater acclaim even internationally through Spencer products— successful graduates in business and other prosperous endeavors and in the professional areas with master s and doctors' degrees. Furthermore, our headmaster is a renowned orator in demand by schools, colleges, and churches at home and in distant places. He has furnish- ed effective leadership in civic, religious, fraternal, and educational efforts and programs. High honors have come to him also as a jmst President of the Georgia Congress of Colored Parents af the Georgia Congress of Colored Par- ents and Teachers and as Treasurer and other offices of the Georgia Teachers and Education Association. He too is a proud and loyal brother in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. And finally, he is an ardent lover of students and Spencer, first, and of others too; and he is a believer in scholarship and refinement. For all this and for his dignity, ability, and friendship, the Senior Class of 1965 proudly dedicates this annual to Principal Charles W.
