OUR PRINCIPAL Mr. C. W. DuVaul THE PRINCIPALS MESSAGE TO THE “CLASS OF 1965” Class of 1965, you have reached the first mile post in your scholastic career. Graduation is always accompanied by a feeling of joy and sadness. Joy because you have completed the first lapse of your journey and sadness because you must sever your relations with teachers, classmates and friends. As you go out into this new world, I would admonish you to strive to see this as “ONE WORLD.” On the surface, men and nations appear to be hostile toward each other, but underneath, if you look carefully, you will discover a universal feeling of brotherhood. 1 here is an old legend of a general who often found his troops disheartened. He believed it tvas due to the fact that they did not realize how close they were to the other divisions fo the same army on account of the dense growth of small trees and shrubbery. The general ordered the underbrush cut and burned. 1 hey saw that they were not isolated as they believed. Their courage was revived and they moved forward with confidence. Today there are some underbrush between nations of the world, such as prejudice, mistrust and hate. Rut if you will go out determined to cut and burn this underbrush, then you can see your relation to all men everywhere. In the language of the poets: NO MAN IS AN ISLAND— No man is an island. No man stands alone, Each mans joy is joy to me Each man's grief is my own, We need one another. So, will defend Each man as my brother. Each man as my friend. —Joan Whitney Alex Kramer 9
