THE PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Members of the Class of 1952: You are now about to join that innumerable caravan of illustrious boys and girls, which moves slowly towards the Land of Success. Each year as I watch boys and girls join this grand procession, I feel a tinge of sadness. As I look at you, full of life, energy and ambition, I tremble with fear which is intensified when I think of the type of world into which you must ultimately go. The one vital question which comes to all seniors at this moment is, graduation, now what? The most memorable words ever spoken were, It is finished. These words were spoken during the most tense moment in the history of the world—crucifixion. You might use the same words in so far as your scholastic career at Spencer High School is concerned, but, in reality you are just beginning. You will now begin to live, you will begin to grow, you will begin to make your way in the complex world in which you find yourselves. For a number of years many of your pathways will run parallel, but soon time and fate will separate them and you will find that each one will chase his own fantasy. Some will go to higher institutions of learning, while some wiH make their places as good citizens in this and many other communities. Wherever you go or whatever you do, re- member that, Knowledge is power and you must continue to study in order that you might not become stagnant. My final word to you is in the language of Lord Chesterfield: Knowledge is a comfortable and necessary retreat and shelter for us in an ad- vanced age; and if we do not plant it while we are young, it will give us no shade when we grow old. CHAS. W. DuVAUL
