PRUPHECY iw Lf- -fjlyi TIME: 1940. PLACE: Spencer, Indiana. SETTING: Fortune Teller's Apartment. Curtain opens disclosing a room furnished like a fortune teller's. Pauline Beauchamp, Inez Franklin, and Wanda Franklin enter the room. Pauline: So this is the apartment of the famous Madam Tellitall! Wanda: I have heard that she can tell you about your past, present, and future. Inez: I wonder where the Madam is? Pauline: Oh, here's her crystal! Let's see if it will work for us! QAll gather around the crystalj Wanda: What shall we ask it to show us? Inez: Let's try to find out what we will be doing fifteen years from now. Pauline: Why not see if it can also tell us of the future of our class- mates? Wanda: That's a good idea, but I wonder how we will go about it? Inez: Maybe there's a magic word. Pauline: No, silly, I was reading about something like this the other day, and all you have to do is concentrate on what you want to see. Inez: I doubt if that works, but we'll give it a try. CAll concentrate and look searchingly into the crystalj All: There's a picture forming! ! ! !! Wanda: Look, it's Gerry Franklin, typing a letter of advice to Marjorie Gray, who seems to still be having trouble with her love affairs. Pauline: The picture is fading! Here is another one! Oh, there's David Fender wearing a white cap and apron. He's chief cook and bottle- washer at Huffman's Cafe here in Spencer. Inez: Who is that person among all those trees? It's Gweneth Gibson. and she's trying to convert the natives of Africa to Christianity! Wanda: There are a lot of animals, but they're in cages. It looks like a zoo. It is! And there's John Spicer, wearing a cap with Curator written on it feeding the animals. Pauline: Now it's showing our own high school. There's Mary Everly, carrying a history book and a letter addressed to: Mary Everly, Principal of Spencer High School. She seems to be calling someone. It's Bill Stevens -he must have been made Dean of Men at old S. H. S. Wanda: Look at all that water! There's a seasick sailor leaning over the rail of a ship. It's Claude Reagan and he has on a sweater with some lettering on it. I can't see exactly what it is. I can see better now. It says Claude Reagan, Heavyweight Champion of the U. S. Navy. I guess Claude is in the height of his glory! He always did want to be a sailor and a boxer.

Inez: The scene is reverting back to Spencer again! It's the Roller Rink and Nina West is instructing a group of children how to skate. Wanda: What's that it is showing now? Pauline: It is the Indianapolis Speedway and Bill Sims seems to be the center of attraction. I guess he won the race. Judging from the Way he drove while in high school, I donit see how he could do anything but win. Wanda: Isn't that a filling station? A car is driving up, and Dewey Hassler is coming out of the station. A chip off the old block, I guess. Will you look who is in the car! There are Lois Sherfield and Virginia Franklin, who is wearing a nurse's uniform. There's a black bag on the seat with 'Dr. Sherfield written on it. Inez: Isn't that Jim Winders hanging up clothes and there's Ollie Troth bending over a tub! Oh, there's a sign with Winders and Troth's Laundry written on it. If that doesn't take the cake, I don't know what does! Pauline: Whew, look at that streamlined car that just drove up to the laundry! Jack Wetzel is the chauffeur and he is talking to Beryl .Adkins, who is sitting in the back seat. My, but she must have found a gold mine! Wanda: Now the setting is in Hollywood. Isn't that Barbara Lawson taking dictation from Mickey Rooney? I hope she has improved in her shorthand since she graduated from old S. H. S. Inez: And there's Eleanor McGuire curling Shirley Temple's hair. I suppose she's a beautician. Pauline: There's another room now, and Harley Allen is directing a love scene between Bob Highet and Fern Freeman. Wanda: There's Sidney Mathes. Why, he's doubling for Mickey Mouse! Inez: The setting is changing again. Now it's showing a circus. There's a figure flying through the air. I believe it's Lois Simpson and she's being tossed from Harry Call to Lloyd Penrose! That sign says they are the 'three great acrobats of the Blarney and Blooney circus. Pauline: There's another performer dressed in a leopard's skin and carrying some dumb-bells! Inez, it's YOU!!! Who would have thought that you would come to that? Wanda: Here comes another performer. It's another Woman and she's dressed as a clown. My but she's fat! Well, if it isn't Dorothy Baugh!-Look at that man surrounded by all those insects. I do believe it is Loren Spear with his flea circus. Pauline: Isn't that a large, steaming kettle? It is, and Maxine Booth is bending over it. Oh, I know. She's at the head of the P. T. A. hot lunch project at Spencer. Inez: I see a lot of sand and water now. Isn't that good-looking fellow walking back and forth on the beach Orval Hinton? It is! He must be a life guard on Miami Beach. Wanda: There's Clyde Kiser and he's writing something. It's a book and the title is Should Husbands Cook Breakfast? --by One Who Does. Pauline: There's another person bending over a desk! It's Evelyn Jones and she's drawing cartoons! I always thought she- had talent. Wanda: What are Maurice Borden and Jack Maners running so hard for? Why, they are cops and are chasing someone. It's you, Pauline. There, they have caught you, and you are protesting. Inez: Here comes another person carrying a satchel with Attorney written on it. Well, it's you, Wanda, and you are waving a bill which says
