PRUPHECY iw Lf- -fjlyi TIME: 1940. PLACE: Spencer, Indiana. SETTING: Fortune Teller's Apartment. Curtain opens disclosing a room furnished like a fortune teller's. Pauline Beauchamp, Inez Franklin, and Wanda Franklin enter the room. Pauline: So this is the apartment of the famous Madam Tellitall! Wanda: I have heard that she can tell you about your past, present, and future. Inez: I wonder where the Madam is? Pauline: Oh, here's her crystal! Let's see if it will work for us! QAll gather around the crystalj Wanda: What shall we ask it to show us? Inez: Let's try to find out what we will be doing fifteen years from now. Pauline: Why not see if it can also tell us of the future of our class- mates? Wanda: That's a good idea, but I wonder how we will go about it? Inez: Maybe there's a magic word. Pauline: No, silly, I was reading about something like this the other day, and all you have to do is concentrate on what you want to see. Inez: I doubt if that works, but we'll give it a try. CAll concentrate and look searchingly into the crystalj All: There's a picture forming! ! ! !! Wanda: Look, it's Gerry Franklin, typing a letter of advice to Marjorie Gray, who seems to still be having trouble with her love affairs. Pauline: The picture is fading! Here is another one! Oh, there's David Fender wearing a white cap and apron. He's chief cook and bottle- washer at Huffman's Cafe here in Spencer. Inez: Who is that person among all those trees? It's Gweneth Gibson. and she's trying to convert the natives of Africa to Christianity! Wanda: There are a lot of animals, but they're in cages. It looks like a zoo. It is! And there's John Spicer, wearing a cap with Curator written on it feeding the animals. Pauline: Now it's showing our own high school. There's Mary Everly, carrying a history book and a letter addressed to: Mary Everly, Principal of Spencer High School. She seems to be calling someone. It's Bill Stevens -he must have been made Dean of Men at old S. H. S. Wanda: Look at all that water! There's a seasick sailor leaning over the rail of a ship. It's Claude Reagan and he has on a sweater with some lettering on it. I can't see exactly what it is. I can see better now. It says Claude Reagan, Heavyweight Champion of the U. S. Navy. I guess Claude is in the height of his glory! He always did want to be a sailor and a boxer.
