Elder, who carried on the wonderful work of music until the summer of 1930, when he accepted a position as principal of West Union High School and moved there. In August 1930 Mr. Karl Brown accepted the position offered to him by the Spencer Board of Education and has been doing a wonderful work in making the citizens of Spencer feel a taste for and appreciate good classical music. He is doing everything possible to make our Spencer High School Band the best in the world. Will he succeed? Wait and see. A few of the members of the band participated in the state orchestra which was held at Charleston, West Virginia. According to the state's greatest musical instructors, we have the best trombone player in the state, and all others from the S. H. S. Band ranked among the best from a musical stand- point. Yet they will not be satisfied until they are at the top of the ladder. They are hoping to win a medal for dear old S. H. S. in the State Band Contest held at Charleston this spring. The band has another occasion to make a name for itself and S. H. S. That is the Apple Blossom Festival at which they are expecting to receive a reward. This event occurs annually at Winchester, Virginia. Page ninety one

It took charge of the staging of the senior play, t'The Laughing Guest, very efficiently caring for costuming, make-up, advertising, and stage managing. This included also a study of the selection of a play, of a cast, and of directing. Eloise Lawrentz The club is still in its infancy, being organized at the beginning of the '30 school term. There is much budding talent in the club, some of which has been played to the best advantage. The rest will have a chance, because there are coming activities in which the others may take part. The object of the club is to bring forth talent and to better dramatics. By the help of the sponsor, Miss Dorothy Davis, the object will be reached. Page ninety three
