A successful or prosperous organization always denotes a competent directorship, a failing or unsuccessful one, an incompetent directorship. Since Spencer High School has prospered greatly in the past year, it is easy to see that she has a competent directorship somewhere behind the scenes. This body takes the form of our most worthy Board of Education, to which much of our success and progress for the past year is due. John Newlon, president of the Board, is the foremost photo- grapher of our illustrious city. Mr. Newlon is a man of much ability and has always shown a kind disposition to lend a helping hand whenever needed. To the invaluable help and assistance of this man the Class of 1931 owes much of its success in the past year. Guy Flesher, commissioner, while one of the newer members of the Board, has shown himself none-the-less willing and ready to cooperate with the school in everything which might contribute to its success. Mr. Flesher is a highly respected citizen and is rapidly becoming a popular member of our Board. We hope that Mr. Flesher's great ability and love may be extended to many future classes of Spencer High. Gay Stalnaker, commissioner, is a worthy member of our Board who has had a great deal of experience in this line elsewhere. For several years he was a member of the Board of Education of Cal- houn County and, at the time of the erection of the Calhoun High School, was president of the Board. Mr. Stalnaker is also an experienced teacher and has been particularly helpful to Spencer, High School because of his experience and qualifications. Paris Bell, secretary, is an old and experienced assistant of the 'Board as he has served in this capacity for ten years. Mr. Bell is very popular with the student body and has given it the best of service in advice. We greatly value Mr. Bell's help and assistance and hope that he may long be in position to render such help and assistance to our school. Page fourteen
