S. had one of the hardest schedules of any team in the state. At the first call for candidates, about 25 men reported who were a very green bunch taken as a whole. The first game of the season was with East Bank, to whom Spencer bowed--19-0. Too bad-how sad! The next game was with Poca. These teams were evenly matched and at the final whistle the score was 0-0. Then came the game with Grantsville which had been lookedforward to for many weeks and perhaps was the most interesting of the games played. The result was a 6-6 tie. Following the tie games with Grantsville and Poca, Spencer journeyed to Charleston where the boys were defeated by one of the best teams in the state, to the tune of 43-0. The next Friday, Spencer played Logan with old man Tough Luck, still following-19-0. The last home game of the season was played with Clay and with good teamwork was won 25-6. On October 31, Spencer played the Big Blacks of Pt. Pleasant. This game was one of the most exciting of the year. It ended a 7-7 tie. The next game was at Clendenin, which we lost 8-6, it being a hard fought game. Spencer next journeyed to Mt. Hope to play Luther Poling's Yellow Jackets. Spencer lost this game to Poling's hard fighting team 38-19. One of the most bitter defeats of the season was suffered at the hands of Parkersburg. Spencer fought gamely in this battle, but the Big Reds were just too much and Spencer finished on the short end of a 45-0 score. This was the final game of the season. As far as the past season is concerned, from a standpoint of victories the year was, to say the most, not very successful, but as for the other benefits received by the boys, the season was undoubtedly good. The team showed at all times and in all ways the spirit that has always been exemplihed by S. H. S., and which, when carried out next year, should give Spencer a very good team. With the passing of this season S. H. S. says goodbye and good luck to four lette1'men: Milo Smith, end, Basil Lawrentz, halfbackg Paul Hall, guard, and Foster Hedges, gua1'd. Coach Bullington teaches good sportsmanship above everything else. He is well liked by all students of S. H. S. Page one lzmzdred fin
