Just A Beginning For The Forensics Team The forensics team got an early start in practice this year, beginning in December. The program continued to expand, with over forty students by the time of the local contest. Of these, thirty-eight traveled to Pittsville on February 24 to take part in the sub-district contest. Much to the delight of coach Mrs. Knauf, and new assistant coach Mr. Heuer, everyone qualified for the District contest at Stevens Point on March 25. From there, thirty- two went on to State at Madison. Three Public Speakers won the coveted gold medal for critics choice , Audra Rux for the second time, Kaye Zimmerman and Carol Kolb. cn«ir»n 2 1. Bands Win Awards The band had a very successful year in 1986-87. In October the marching band played at the Eau Claire Homecoming parade and received a first place award. The Solo-Ensemble Festival was held in Granton this year. At this event half of Spencer's band and chorus members received first place awards. The band also performed at the Stevens Point Lions Parade receiving a second place award. Additional enthusiasm was generated among members because of the striking new band uniforms. Donations toward these uniforms were made by the Spencer Lions Club and Band Boosters Association.
