At this concert, the choir members were required to dress in clothes from the 1950's and sang tunes from that era. The chorus performed their Christmas concert in mid-December. After Christmas vacation the chorus and band began to prepare for the 10th annual Cabaret. Performances were given by the 1986-87 chorus and band members, along with Spencer alumni who were invited back to join them. 5 1. Instead of a full production in the fall, several members performed Improvisational Theater for grades 1-6. We also prepared a Reader's Theater in December and performed both in school and in the community. In the spring, we moved into the wrestling gym. Our light structure was permanently installed and our acting area became full arena. The first production in our new home was Story Theater by Paul Sills, a collection of Grimm's fairy tales and Aesop's fables. 1986-87 was a very good year! 10 1. The purpose of this program was to give students a chance to experience the challanges of academic competition. This competition consisted of math science, social studies, economics, fine arts, and English. The students were selected by advisor Mrs. Rannow. These selections were based on faculty recommendations and interested students with qualifying grade points. The National Honor Society was a nation-wide organization of chapters designed to enhance leadership, service, and character achievement. Spencer High's NHS co-sponsered Project Merry Christmas which provided care packages for the needy in the Spencer area. The High Quiz Bowl team was the third academic program at Spencer High School. Although the team was defeated in their first round, Spencer High School received a $300 scholarship for Viterbo College in La Crosse, WI. This money was held in an account for a student who wanted to go to Viterbo. As of the end of the 1986-87 school year, the Spencer High School teams had received $1000 in scholarships for Spencer High School. 1. This goal was achieved with the awarding of the Sectional Membership Award for the largest increase in membership at the State FFA Convention. The FFA continued to co-sponsor Project Merry Christmas serving over 160 families with the help of the National Honor Society. Contest teams were active in Fox Valley, UW-RiverFalls and the State Contests in Madison. Spencer Partici- pants ranked in the top 25% of the schools participating in the Ag Technology Contests at UW-River Falls. Spencer FFA hosted the Central Wisconsin Pork Producers Pork Fair for the first year. Twenty-seven area FFA Chapters were invited to compete. The Chapter finished the year ranking bronze in the Building Our American Communities Competition, silver in Chapter Safety, and National Chapter and Food for America. All Chapter award programs were based upon the work and achievements of the chapter throughout the year. Individual members also received recognition for their achievements in Proficiency Awards and State Farmer Degrees, as well as competition on the local level. 1. Remembering the fun and laughter. The problems and the fears. And watching all our memories grow Throughout our high school years. The memories of the dances And the new friends that we've met. Vacations, teachers, talking And exams we'd rather forget. Yes, high school days are precious but brief. Where all your dreams come true; It is not the end, but the beginning Of a life we ll start anew. 79 Spencer's First Foreign Exchange Student 3 4 5 80 Neli Dominik was Spencer High School's first foreign exchange student. She came to Spencer in August, 1986 from Hamburg, West Germany. Moving to Spencer was quite a change for Neli coming from a city of over two million to Spencer, a city of under two thousand. Neli came here because she heard so much about the American way of life and she always wanted to know if all the rumors of America were true. The only impressions she had of the United States came from watching television shows such as Dallas and Dynasty. Neli stayed with the Rux family after they chose her from a list of possible exchange students. The Ruxes chose Neli because Audra had been an exchange student in West Germany and also because of her musical talents. Neli remembers everyone being really nice to her. So nice that less than two months after her arrival in Spencer she was chosen as the 1986 Homecoming Queen. During her year in Spencer, Neli also took part in band, jazz band, and chorus. These activities earned her recognition as the Outstanding Musician for the 1986-87 school year. Being here a year gave Neli enough time to become a graduating member of the Spencer High Class of 1987. After graduation here, Neli must attend three more years of school in Germany. When she finishes high school there she will go to college and study medicine in hopes of becoming a doctor. Although Neli has left Spencer and is back home in West Germany, she will be remembered for some time. X. First day of school! 2. First U.S. Christmas in New Orleans. 3. TRUE FRIENDS There are many people that we meet in our lives but only a very few will make a lasting impression on our minds and hearts It is these people that we will think of often and who will always remain important to us as true friends Maturity is the ability to live in someone else's world. 85 8b ze For Your Support $10 - $20 - $30 Advanced Auto Glass Co., Loyal Awards by G D, Spencer Edna Mae's Fashions, Spencer Future Business Leaders of America, Spencer Chapter Jim Waldhart Insurance, Spencer John D.
