This year with the lack of partici- pation in many things, the FHA banquet was cancelled. National FHA week was one of the events, though, that went on as planned, February 13-17. During the week candy grams were sold, and the annual all-member break- fast was held. On Monday, mem- bers received prizes if their name was drawn. Two contests for the entire school to participate in were con- ducted. Brenda Talcott was able to guess the number of popcorn ker- nels in a jar, and Pam Kolb found 1571 words in Future Homemakers of America. 12

As Miss Donna Olson joined the teaching staff at SHS, she took on the job of advising the FFA. A com- bined effort between adviser and students helped to make a success- ful year. Some activities that kept mem- bers busy throughout the year were basketball, fund raisers, and FFA week. Also a few days were spent teaching the fourth graders. National FFA week, February 14- 26, involved both FFA members and non-members. Mitch Me- lander won the milk chugging con- test with a winning time of 19 sec- onds. Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Hager tied for first place on a quiz about food and farming given to teachers. Other activities included a farmer dress-up day, a bulletin board con- test, and a staff appreciation day. To keep the books out of the red, a number of fund raisers were initi- ated. Sausage, cheese, fruit, and the all-American favorite — peanuts — were sold. 11
