The Rocket wrestlers finished the season with a 3-3-1 confer- ence record and a 3-6-1 overall record, but this was no indication of the talent of the grapplers. They took on one of the toughest schedules in the state. Each Individual improved as the season went by, and it showed when the conference and WIAA tourneys rolled around. Five wrestlers went to Sectionals: Dave Sautner, 98; Jeff Wingert, 126; Scott Carlson, 132; Wade Waughan, 155; and Mark Stelzl, heavy weight. Advancing to Madison were Scott Carlson and Mark Stelzl. This was Scott's fourth appearance at the UW fieldhouse. His success brought him the school’s record for career wins, 92. Mark finished the season with 17 pins, a new career record. NEW COACHES ON ALL THREE TEAfTIS All three boys' teams had new coaches this year. Dale Kundinger took over as head coach and was assisted by Steve Christman. A new position of Freshmen coach was added for Gary Severson. The Rockets were in contention for a share of the Marawood crown for most of the season. When the second half of the season rolled around, the guys' goal was to avenge their loss to Marathon. But the old saying Take one game at a time'' proved to be true. An upset by Abby took away any chance of sharing the conference title. Todd Baumgartner led team scoring with 261 points and took the team rebounding high with 193. Todd was also named All-Conference along with Bill Stephens and Dan Foth, who re- ceived Honorable Mention votes. Bill sunk a team high of 73 per cent from the line.
