Tracey Karau, Deb Nelson, Brenda Beyer. The varsity volleyball team ended their season with a confer- ence record of three wins—six losses and a 4-10 overall record. The JV team, on the other hand, chalked up a 8-2 overall record giving them their best record ever. Sarah Graves led all scoring and setting, which landed her a spot on the Marawood Conference second team. The determination and drive were there, but the Rockets couldn't seem to get it all together. They started out the season with a bang, which gradually died down; although, they gave many teams a run for fheir money. The highlight of the season was almost beating the conference and state champs—Abby. In the first match of Regionals, the Rockets were defeated by Auburndale and ended the '81 season. 1. The boys worked hard to earn the offensive crown In the Marawood Con- ference. Scott Johnson led the squad and conference in yards rush- ing with 1178 yards. Without the work of the whole team, Scott wouldn't have had the opportunity to earn the rushing title. Five players achieved their goals of being named to the Marawood All-Conference team; Scott Johnson, Roger An- derson, Jon Steffenhagen, and Steve Anderson on offense and Wade Vaughan and Rog- er Anderson on defense. 1. Several team members were sus- pended for a violation of the Athletic Code. This meant regrouping the squad and moving several JV players to the Var- sity squad. At times there were as many as five Freshmen seeing action during the Varsity game. The tough Marawood Conference proved to be all the new team could han- dle. They ended the season with a 3-15 conference record. The JV’s finished the same. When tournament time came, the girls traveled to Greenwood and lost their opener In a close game. Final stats for the season showed Tracey Karau with the most points and assists, 154 and 32 respectively. Marcia Christiansen brought down the most rebounds, 131. She also received Honorable Mention when the All-Conference team was picked. 12 « i jsCOttBOARO Spencer 32 Stratford 46 Spencer 45 Ptttsvltte 44 Spencer 44 Prentice 65 Spencer 47 Granton 38 Spencer 53 Athens 33 Spencer 30 Edgar 5 Rib Lake 43 Spencer 44 Spencer • 39 Abbotsford 66 Spencer 25 Stratford 51 Spencer 36 Marathon 61 Spencer 53 Granton 43 Spencer R 37 Prenttce 68 Spencer 55 Athens 1 44 - 63 Spencer 35 Rib Loke Spencer 39 Ptttsvltte 43 Spencer 33 Abbotsford 67 Spencer 49 Edgar 50 Spencer 38 Marathon 50 1. M NEW COACHES ON ALL THREE TEAfTIS All three boys' teams had new coaches this year. Dale Kundinger took over as head coach and was assisted by Steve Christman. A new position of Freshmen coach was added for Gary Severson. The Rockets were in contention for a share of the Marawood crown for most of the season. When the second half of the season rolled around, the guys' goal was to avenge their loss to Marathon. But the old saying Take one game at a time'' proved to be true. An upset by Abby took away any chance of sharing the conference title. Todd Baumgartner led team scoring with 261 points and took the team rebounding high with 193. Todd was also named All-Conference along with Bill Stephens and Dan Foth, who re- ceived Honorable Mention votes. Bill sunk a team high of 73 per cent from the line. The Rocket wrestlers finished the season with a 3-3-1 confer- ence record and a 3-6-1 overall record, but this was no indication of the talent of the grapplers. They took on one of the toughest schedules in the state. Each Individual improved as the season went by, and it showed when the conference and WIAA tourneys rolled around. Five wrestlers went to Sectionals: Dave Sautner, 98; Jeff Wingert, 126; Scott Carlson, 132; Wade Waughan, 155; and Mark Stelzl, heavy weight. Advancing to Madison were Scott Carlson and Mark Stelzl. This was Scott's fourth appearance at the UW fieldhouse. His success brought him the school’s record for career wins, 92. Mark finished the season with 17 pins, a new career record. TAKE 1ST First to lunch for a month was the prize for the best class spirit and participation during Homecoming Week. The Junior class out did themselves and took first place. Student government wanted to make this year's activities some thing special, and they did. Would you believe there were 31 Junior girls in a '62 Chevy or 32 marshmal- lows in Keith Kettleborough's mouth! On Friday seventh and eighth hour classes were replaced with a pep rally. No one expected the Senior girls to build the best pyra- mid. When game time rolled around, the Rockets were on their way to a 50-6 win over Abby. Rounding out the week was the dance with mu- sic by TJ. A quieter moment was when the 1981 Homecoming King and Queen, Chris Jicinsky and Denise Marden, were crowned. 1. Early In fall when you were worrying about first semester classes and fall sports, the yearbook staff made deci- sions and plans for this book. They de- cided to pick a theme and carry it throughout the annual. The concept of signs was shown in the cover col- ors and the division page titles. Artwork depicting commonly seen signs were inserted to add interest. Something new, spot color, wqs used in the underclassmen pages. Warm yellow type and artwork were de- signed to capture the readers' atten- tion. All this was done for you—we hope you liked it. 1. ADVISOR Miss Goetsch. 2. Missing: Crystal Mutzner. 2 50 FUTURE FARfTIERS KEEP BUSY ON COmmiTTEES The FFA was organized into twelve committees with the intention of getting all members in- volved. Several of these committees had projects that not only benefited its members but also the entire school. In the fall, the BOAC Committee began con- struction on a nature trail north of school. Thanks to the Safety Committee the metal and wood shops have safety stripes on the floor to protect students. They also put on a fire safety program for the third graders. Fourth graders were treated to a visit to Mullin's Cheese Factory and the DuWayne Gropp farm during Food For America Week. In order to keep these committees in the black, FFA had three major fund raisers: seed corn sales: garden seed sales; and fruit sales, which hit an all time high. The chapter was awarded the honor of 10-Plus Chapter for 100 per cent membership and add- ing new members. The Parliamentary Procedure Team defended its District and Sectional titles and hoped to become winners on the State lev- el. ■i wnar rormi wnat n- nesse! What, Jerome Meacham? 4. Before the band arrived at Knoxville, they already marched in two parades; one in Philadelphia and the other in Washington, D.C., where they represented the state of Wisconsin. Interested parents and adults formed a group called Band Boosters to help the students raise over $15,000 needed for the trip. Fund raising ac- tivities ranged from selling candy and pizzas, to bake sales, to a pancake supper, to raffling off a 1982 car. 1.
