They were often seen checking out at the desk, shelving books, keeping periodicals up to date, and putting up bulletin boards which were both educational and supportive of organizations and athletics. At the July 4th Superior Parade they re- ceived Best of Bands, the highest award given. In November the music and drama departments pre- sented the musical Brigadoon. The chorus put in many long and tiring hours to get it all together. The work paid off and brought in three full houses. The Concert Band and Chorus shared their Christ- mas spirit at the annual Christmas Concert. Their se- lections ranged from marches to traditional Christmas carols. Hits from Musicals was the theme for the Fourth Annual Cabaret. Many soles, duets, and other small groups performed as in other years. When spring came, students spent their time prac- ticing for the local and state Solo and Ensembles con- test, in addition to the Pops concert where awards were given out. 1. Lemer. The setting was a mythical village in the Scottish Highland which comes to life once every one hundred years. The cast consisted of 45 members with an addition- al 45 students making up the orchestra and various crews. This was one of the largest productions put on in the school's history. Theatrical director was Esther Rannow, vocal direc- tor was Deb Rickard, and instrumental director was lames Weber. 1. The song title, On the Road Again ' could be used to describe the adventures of the FFA. Early in November four members, along with Mr. Kugel, were off to attend the National FFA convention in Kansas City. They were hardly back before it was time to start basketball and par- liamentarian practice. The basketball team's efforts were not as successful as those of the Parly Pro team, which traveled to Madison to participate in state competition. When spring came, the cattle-judging team placed sec- ond at River Falls and went on to compete at state. In April, the Midland Co-op sponsored a two-day trip to Minneapolis for over forty members. When school closed, several members were still making plans for a week at Jag Lake. □n thE Road Again FFA—ROW 1: Brad Bruss, Steve Fleischman, Dena Bauer, Dean Griepentrog, Jim Waldhart. Both groups sold concessions at the winter sports events but went their separate ways when it came to spending it. The S-Club pur- chased some new weights for the weightlifting machine and supplies for the football team. The OGA took on a big project and bought hairdryers for the girls' lockerroom. Special Events 4 + til 61 New Events at HC T-shirt, sunglasses, and hat day, along with bib day, were additions to Homecoming Week. The always pop- ular slave auction had a sideshow—Jim Wingert bit the head off a live frog. On Friday, game day, students donned the school colors. During the pep rally, the winners of the activities were announced. The Seniors' Blue Jay Jailhouse won first in hall decorations. OGA won the mini-float contest for the second year in a row. The faculty won the skit competition with a por- trayal of Coach Bu on the morning of a big game. When game time rolled around, the rain was pouring down. But that didn't dampen the Rockets' plans, they beat the Blue Jays 40-0. 1. Don't I get a nickel back? 2. Friday afternoon, April 24, was set aside for the big event. This was first time since 1979 that the Spring Olympics was held; the Class of '81 came out on top as they did then.
