Friday night's pep rally entertained a large turnout with numerous skits and cheers. Homecoming Odyssey The twenty-fifth year of football at Spencer was celebrated throughout a week of activities during Homecoming 1971. Alumni football players and cheerleaders from a quarter of a century were invited, and honored at a get-together sponcered by the Pep Club. Homecoming week began October 4, with the decoration of the school. This activity was undertaken by the senior class, in- stead of building a float. However, the other three classes did set themselves to the task of molding chicken wire and napkins into various creations. Friday and Saturday mingled tradition with innovation. The pep rally, bonfire, and parade were held as usual. However a con- cert, featuring Dave Yonker, was presented instead of a dance, on Saturday night. Presiding over the activities were King Gary Buse and his queen Bev Oelrich. The main event of the week, the game, brought the Spencer Rockets and the Abbotsford Falcons into conflict on the football field. Though both teams played a rousing game, Abbotsford emerged victorious. Dave performs on the stage, singing a variety of self- composed folk tunes and ballads, as well as popular songs. King Gary and Queen Bev enjoy their ride. n The first-place float, by the Juniors, incorporates the 25-year theme.

t 1 Pauline Weis, as Queen Elizabeth, and Su- san Harrell, as Penelope, discuss the death of Essex. Theodote, played by Barb Krohn, exchanges anecdotes with Socrates' wife, by Janean Stelzl, in Barefoot in Athens. Debbie Marcott, as Joan, denies her visions to the judges. Socrates, played by Tom Yost, receives comfort from his wife. Maxwell Anderson’s Mark Pryer, as the Inquisitor, questions Joan's visions. Plays Are Performed On October 30 and 31, the Drama Club presented scenes from three full-length plays by the American playwright, Max- well Anderson. The scenes were cut from Barefoot in Athens, a play set in Greece in the time of Socrates; Elizabeth the Queen, set in England during the reign of Elizabeth; and Joan of Lorraine, portraying the trial of Joan of Arc. Preparation for the production provided the students with a five-week exercise of building a charater on stage. The chal- lenge was accepted by sixteen actors and a thirty-nine mem- bered production staff. Barefoot in Athens was later performed by the cast and crew at a drama workshop held at Superior, Wisconsin. 13
