John Harris Seniors Brian Pickett Real Athlete's Feet 1971 Football Season The revolutions of an eliptical body were fervently watched as they decided the outcome of the 1971 football season. And though that orbital football was handled with great expertise, the Spencer Rocket’s concluded the season with a 2-7 record. Rallying under the direction of Coach Stewart, the team provided the spectators with thrilling gridiron action. Often considered to be the underdog, the Rocket’s undaunt- ed spirit compensated for a lack of experience. This spirit emplified by a return of kickoff for a touchdown during the game against Nekoosa. The Rockets added some sparkle to their playing after their first victory, with the appearance on the field of brand new uniforms. However, the new attire was less protective than was needed, for several Rocket players were downed with injuries. Barring injuries and losses, the season nevertheless provided a lot of good football for the fans to watch. In recognition of their ability, several Spencer players re- ceived honors in the all-conference team and the Channel 7 All-Stars.
