For eleven years before he came to Spencer, Mr. George Nikolay, school superintendent, taught social studies and physical education in the little townof Oxford, Wisconsin. In the school of only 90 students, Mr. Nikolay conducted phy. ed. classes for both boys and girls. After two years, he became the principal at that school. A graduate of Abbotsford High School, Mr. Nikolay earned his bachelor’s degree with a major in history from WSU-Stevens Point. During his last year at Oxford, he re- ceived his master’s degree in administration education at Madison. He is an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, and enjoys all types of sports including spectating at high school foot- ball and basketball games. In his spare time, he also enjoys reading and spending time with his wife, Sonja. and four children, Julie, Daniel, Lorie and Bernard. Since Mr. Nikolay is fond of working with people, he enjoys his job. In comparing Spencer with Oxford he says, “1 guess if you enjoy kids, basically, you like working with them in any school.” Superintendent Principal Mr. Roland Krueger “Real teaching comes with communication, and com- munication comes with knowing each other.” This is what Mr. Roland Krueger, principal of Spencer High, feels is the big advantage of teaching in a small school. He feels that our school has more educational and extra-curricular value than a larger school with a more extensive curriculum. Stu- dents are given greater opportunities to participate in all activities. Mr. Krueger graduated from Mosinee High School and was a salesman with the Milwaukee Etna Life Insurance Company for three years. He has been at Spencer since 1958 when he graduated from Wisconsin State University, Stevens Point. He has three sons, Mark, David, and James. In his spare time, Mr. Krueger enjoys gardening and putter- ing around the house making repairs and remodeling. It is not unusual to see Mr. Krueger staying after school nights and giving of his own time so that the student or- ganizations and publications might be successful. 6
