The Yearbook Staff of Spencer High School Spencer, Wisconsin Presents Dedication Miss Smith Mrs. Rannow Mr. Braun Mr. Bukowski Mrs. Southworth Mr. Nikolay Mr. Krueger Mrs. Zogg Mr. Hack Miss Crandall Mr. Benson Mr. Kober Mr. Moreland Mr. Fait Mrs. Hack Mr. Shaw Mrs. Gauger We, the class of 1967 would like to dedicate this edition of the Spencer Rocket to the faculty at Spencer High School. We are grateful to them for their infinite patience, wise guidance and tolerance of our mistakes over the past few years. Because of them we hope to step into this challenging world better prepared to shoulder the responsibilities and to prove ourselves to be worthy of the job which now is ours. Let each of us in some small way make this a better world because we have grown in wisdom and understanding through their teachings. Superintendent's Message It is again my pleasure to address a few remarks to the students of Spencer High School. I wish to ex- press a deep appreciation to those students who do so much to help make our school program a success. In a small high school a select few must do the work of many and those few have done well. I con- gratulate these students and express a hope that more students will, in the future, assist in making our school an even bigger success story. George R. Nikolay Principal's Message It is sometimes said that life is but a series of trials. If this is so, then life is also a series of decisions. Fallible man confronted with trials, and therefore, inevitable decisions, will succeed some- times and fail on others. Too often we dwell upon these end results--these successes and the failures-- with little regard for the fact that such results are inevitable. Thus, we suffer the pangs of remorse or regret in our failure, or glory in our attainments. We judge ourselves and others on the basis of how often we succeed or how often we fail. Would it not be more worthwhile to place the emphasis on the trying” rather than on the result of the trial? There is something positive no matter what the results. If life is but a series of trials, then perhaps we should place our value, and therefore our judgment of ourselves and others, on how often and how hard we try, not on how often we succeed or fail. This year the ROCKETTE has become an important part of student life. It has become the voice of student opinion and activity. The editors and their staffs have worked hard to make it the best edition yet. The newspaper has accomplished some totally new things. It has established a new editorship for layout and has purchased its own mimeograph. The paper has entered successfully into the field and for the first time has sold the paper by subscription. These have gone a long way to help the paper pay for itself. For an added touch the paper has experimented with color and run pictures. We're glad we can say the paper has become the student's paper. Both offense and defense showed good perspective. The Rockets really gave the fans something to cheer about when they finished the season with seven wins and one loss. Although the Rockets beat Edgar at our homecoming, we still ended up tied with them for first place. The Rockets produced four boys on the All-Star Conference. On both defense and offense we had Dale Toltzman. On defense Roger Hebert was our big fighter. On offense, the two “stars” were Jerry Keys, our quarterback, and Mike Bauer, our fullback. That year the nation was shaken by the assasination of President Kennedy. We were just Freshman then, but the memory is still vivid in our minds. In due course we were officially initiated into Spencer High School. In our Sophomore year we were eagarly awaiting the move from the cold and drafty old school to the new one. In our Junior year we put on the prom. The theme for it was “Moonlight and Roses.91 The music was furnished by Jimmy Stueber and his orchestra. In our Senior year the bulk of our time was spent raising money for our class trip to Washington D.C. We sponsored a donkey basketball game, sold candles and wrapping paper, and pedalled candy and hot dogs. On May 27, 1967, we graduated from Spencer High School leaving sad and happy memories behind. Best of luck to all underclassmen. Enjoy your high school days but don't forget to work.
