Senior Class History On August 31, 1953, a group of U5 shy freshmen met In the assembly of the Spencer Public School for the first time. The main event of our Freshman year was Initiation. The girls had to wear gunny-sack skirts and booties, men's shirts backwards, and ties. The boys wore gunny-sack skirts to their knees, ladles hats, ladies shoes, and make-up. At the end of the Jear when Freshmen noses were counted, there were 2 left. We had a nice year and looked forward to being Sophomores. As Sophomores we began the year by Initiating the Freshmen, and finished it by having dances and raising money for our Junior year. The Junior year kept all 37 of us busy. Our first project was the Junior Class Play on December 8, directed by Mrs. Zogg and entitled, Act Your Age. We thank Mrs. Zogg for making our play a success. The next project was the Junior Prom, which we held on April 21. We chose the theme April Showers. Music was furnished by Howard Sturtz. Elmer Karau and Sharon Waskow reigned as king and queen. With this we climaxed our busy Junior year. The first big event of our Senior year was Homecoming, October 20. Ronald Koepke and Minnie Karau reigned as king and queen. The high school, grades, and organizations entered floats in the parade and our last Homecoming was a huge success. The main class project was the annual, THE ROCKET. We thank Mrs. Pietrowiak for her aid in advising our annual staff. A day we are all looking forward to is the day of our Senior class trip. As we leave to seek our destinies, we would like to say one thing to those we leave behind. Make and keep Spencer High a place to be proud of. Gadget, the brain of the sailor team tried to prolong their leave by saying they were going to be married, but he didn't count on the Commander being in town to check. Things got even more confused when Commander Stone's daughter (Jerry's aunt) arrived and immediately attracted Jim's attention. The whole affair was finally straightned out, but only after a fake funeral failed to fool the Commander. Somewhat stunned by being engaged , married , drowned , and buried all in one day; Angy and Jerry began to ACT YOUR AGE once again and went out to find frogs I The Junior Prom of 1956 took place cn April 21 in Spencer Municipal Hall. Elmer Karau and Sharcn Waskow reigned as king and queen. Ihe dance floor was decked with multi-colored streamers with flowers draped on the king and queen's throne, a white picket fence, and gar- den wall. Balloons, representing raindrops, and umbrel- las hung from the ceiling adding a special touch to the theme, April Showers. A hugh drawing of musical notes and colored balls surrounding the theme provided the color- ful stage for the Howie Sturtz Orchestra. Our big project was a big success and we all had a lovely time. HOMECOMING The Homecoming of 19$6 started on October 19 with the customary bonfire. Pep Tally and Snake Dance. The parade was held on Saturday with various campus and civic organizations entering color- ful floats. In the evening the Spencer Rockets defeated the Colby Hornets by a score of 21-6 To conclude the activities, there was aHcmecoming dance with King Ronnie Koepke crowning as his queen,Minnie Karau. Members of the Queen1 s Court were Barbara Sook, Pat Weis, Roshell fendertioof, and Carol Marten. Music was provided by Wayne See- feldt's orchestra. Freshmen Initiation Freshman initiation was a lot of fun even though they thought we were a little rude. The sophomores gave them a big welcome. The Frosh wore gunny sacks with holes cut for head and arms, and a green ribbon around their waist. They also wore cute little gun- ny sack shoes. Both boys and girls wore a hat with the rim cut off and a green ribbon arcund it. No lipstick and powder were allowed to be worn. New teachers didn't get initiated this year and they should consider themselves lucky indeed. The festivities were climaxed with a dance in the evening. Row One J. Kommer, N. Flink, L. Oberle, Y.
